Northeast-10 Conference Announces New Staff Member
For Immediate Release
July 11, 2012
South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10
Conference has announced the hiring of Michael Ghika as Assistant
Director for Strategic Communications at the conference office. The
move became official on July 1 with the beginning of the 2012-13
academic year.
Ghika, 23, had served as the conference’s intern since
August 2011, assisting primarily in communications endeavors.
The addition now gives the Northeast-10 five full-time positions,
marking the most for the conference since its formation in
1979.
Ghika graduated from Southern New Hampshire University in 2011 with
a B.S. in Sport Management and a minor in Communications. In his
time as a student, he worked four years as an Athletics
Communications assistant in the school’s athletic
department.
“We are pleased that Michael Ghika has agreed to join the
Northeast-10 Conference staff," said Northeast-10 commissioner
Julie Ruppert. "His familiarity with our institutions, developed as
an undergraduate at Southern New Hampshire, combined with the
conference office experience he has gained this past year, will
enable him to hit the ground running in this new position."
"He will be an important contributor to our communications efforts
and an integral part of telling our Northeast-10 story, both of
which will greatly assist our conference. I’m extremely
excited about the immediate and long-term contributions he’ll
make to our membership and the conference office and am thrilled
that he will be part of our team moving forward.”
“I am more than grateful to remain with the Northeast-10 in
a full-time capacity,” said Ghika. “Over the last year,
I’ve been fortunate enough to meet so many great people from
our 16 member institutions, and I look forward to continuing those
relationships moving forward.”
He also served as Director of Media Operations for the North Shore
Navigators, a summer collegiate baseball team located in Lynn,
Mass., for two years. With the organization, he oversaw operations
for separate television and radio broadcast crews in addition to
running press box operations on game days.
This past year at the Northeast-10, Ghika compiled weekly reports
and press releases for the conference website, while also
overseeing and administering conference championship events. He
also helped launch the conference’s Student-Athlete Blog
Initiative, a project that saw 16 student-athletes partake in the
effort in its first year.
The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges
and universities located in New England and New York that is
committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic
opportunities for more than 5,500 student-athletes. Each year,
4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships
in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the
country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within
the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive
program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
