NCAA News: 'Division II SAAC raises record amount for Make-A-Wish Foundation'
Jul 18, 2006

The Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee raised $114,692 in 2005-06 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation -- the most ever in its three years of national fund-raising to support children with life-threatening illnesses.

Division II student-athletes across the nation raised the money one event at a time at institutional, conference and national levels. The national SAAC, which contains a representative from each conference and one representative for independent institutions, coordinated the overall effort. The goal for 2005-06 was $100,000.

"Division II student-athletes are special," said Division II Vice President Mike Racy. "They understand the importance of being part of a larger community, and they demonstrate that commitment every year through their Make-A-Wish efforts.

"And not only have they supported Make-A-Wish, they also have been extensively involved in efforts to support Habitat for Humanity and other service projects in their own communities."

Make-A-Wish, which is committed to providing special experiences for children with life-threatening illnesses, recognizes Division II as a fund-raising advocate.
