#1 Le Moyne Defeats #2 Merrimack to Claim Eighth
Northeast-10 Championship in Nine Year

South Easton, Mass. – Le Moyne College scored the first six goals of the game as the Dolphins defeated Merrimack College 10-2 in the Northeast-10 Men’s Lacrosse Championship Final Sunday afternoon in Syracuse, N.Y. to win their eighth championship in the last nine years.

Le Moyne sophomore Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y.) led the way for the Dolphins, scoring a game-high five goals; three of which coming in the first half.

Chadderdon got the scoring started for Le Moyne as the Dolphins jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by the time the first period ended. Sophomore Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) scored two of his four goals in the first half to lead Le Moyne.

The Dolphins added to their lead in the second period as Chadderdon scored two man-up goals to increase the lead to 5-0. Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored a goal in the final seconds of the first half as the Dolphins lead 6-0 at halftime.

Merrimack finally got on the board in the third period when David Robinson (Lexington, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 6-1. The Warriors would tack on another goal this time from Kevin Laplante (Sabathus, Maine) but not before the Dolphins added one of their own to take a 7-2 lead heading into the fourth period.

Le Moyne would score three more goals before it was all said and done and held on for the 10-2 victory. Goalkeeper Doug McIver (Altamont, N.Y.), the championship’s most outstanding player, made 12 saves between the pipes for the Dolphins, while Merrimack’s Cory Spinale (Wakefield, Mass.) stopped 14 shots.

Le Moyne’s Chadderdon and Drew Bezek (Lowville, N.Y.) joined McIver on the All-Championship team, along with Merrimack’s Mark Webber (Mansfield, Mass) and Spinale.

Also named to the All-Championship Team was Bentley’s Doug Logan, Saint Anselm’s Chris Murphy, Saint Michael’s Bryan Zaremba and Southern New Hampshire’s Mike Ball.

With the win, Le Moyne continues to be perfect with a 15-0 record and should be a lock for the NCAA Division II Tournament. Merrimack is now 14-2 and will await the NCAA’s announcement on whether or not they receive a post-season bid.

With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
