Stonehill and Merrimack To Face Off In Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Championship Final


South Easton, Mass. - Stonehill College and Merrimack College will face each other in the Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Championship Final after coming away with semifinal victories Friday afternoon.

The Skyhawks defeated fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire by the score of 5-0, while the Warriors were victorious over third-seeded Bentley University 5-1. Stonehill and Merrimack will meet 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 26 in the Northeast-10 Championship match.

Top seeded Stonehill came away with a quick 5-0 win over #5 Southern New Hampshire to advance to the championship finals for the second straight season. The Skyhawks began the afternoon with three straight double victories as No. 1 doubles partners Tim Fayed and Michael Mashkevich and No. 2 doubles combo of Jason Allegretti and Will Herchel each recorded 8-2 wins. At No. 3 doubles, Mike Leone and Charlie Sherman won their match by the score of 8-4.

In singles action, Leone won at No. 3 singles in straight set wins, while Allegretti picked up the win at No. 4 singles with the score of 6-1, 6-2.

Second-Seeded Merrimack defeated third-seeded Bentley 5-1 after jumping out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles competition. The Warriors picked up wins in No. 2 doubles with the combo of Rishi Rajpal and Adam Wilding winning by the score of 8-5, while Sean Pahler and Steve Viglione teamed for a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles. The Falcons picked up a win at No. 1 doubles as partners Jigar Gada and Alec Spycher won their match with the score of 8-5.

In singles action, Merrimack received wins from Rajpal at No. 1 singles (6-4, 7-6) and Wilding at No. 2 singles as he won his match in straigh sets with the score of 6-1, 6-1. Seaward picked up the win at No. 3 singles, winning his match in straigh sets as well, 6-3, 6-3.

Stonehill Claims First Ever Men’s Tennis Regular Season Title


South Easton, Mass. – The Stonehill College Skyhawks secured the top seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Men’s Tennis Championship after winning their first-ever Northeast-10 Regular Season title in team history.

The Skyhawks (17-3, 10-0 NE-10) finished conference play a perfect 10-0 after defeating Merrimack College (12-3, 9-1 NE-10) on the final day of the regular season resulting in the Warriors only blemish in conference play earning the second seed in the championship. Bentley University (11-7, 8-2 NE-10) received the third seed followed by Saint Michael’s College (7-7, 7-3 NE-10) as the fourth seed.

The top four seeds will host quarterfinal matches on Wednesday, April 22.

Quarterfinal matches include #8 Assumption College (3-7, 3-7 NE-10) at #1 Stonehill, #7 Saint Anselm (4-6, 4-6 NE-10) at #2 Merrimack, #6 Le Moyne (8-9, 5-5 NE-10) at #3 Bentley and #5 Southern New Hampshire (6-4, 6-4 NE-10) at #4 Saint Michael’s. Quarterfinal matches are slated for 3 p.m.

The semifinal round will be on Friday, April 24 with the winner of Assumption/Stonehill facing the winner of Southern New Hampshire/Saint Michael’s. The other semifinal matchup will feature the winner of Saint Anselm/Merrimack and the winner of Le Moyne/Bentley. Semifinal matches will take place at the higher remaining seeds and are set for 3 p.m.

The championship match will take place in conjunction with the women’s tennis championship final on Sunday, April 26 at Stonehill College.
