South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference and the conference Senior Women Administrator (SWA) council selected Saint Anselm College as the recipient of the inaugural David R. Brunk Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award.

“I would like to congratulate Saint Anselm College, Athletic Director Ed Cannon, the coaches and student-athletes for being selected as the first recipient of this prestigious award,” said Northeast-10 Commissioner David Brunk. “Sportsmanship has long been a fundamental principle of the Northeast-10 and is a key attribute to Division II. Respect for fairness, courtesy and ethical conduct for others is what we stand for as a league and to be chosen by your peers speaks volumes on the importance the Saint Anselm program places on sportsmanship.”

Throughout the 2006-2007 academic year the Northeast-10 awarded one team from each of its 23 championship sports with the ‘Team Sportsmanship Award’ at the end of each season’s championship segment.

The ‘Team Sportsmanship Award’ is presented to the team that best exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree of integrity, character and class. The Hawks won five team sportsmanship awards, the most throughout the conference.

Webster Bank, in conjunction with the Northeast-10, will make a donation to the Hawks local Boys & Girls Club in their name.

Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any Division II conference.
