South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference has announced the recipients of its spring 2008 Sportsmanship Awards.

The awards program honors one team from each of the conference’s 23 championship sports that has exemplified the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducted themselves with a higher degree of integrity, character and class. During the season the awards were decided upon by a vote of each of the conference’s teams, head coach, team captain and Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative in their respective sports.

American International College led the way this spring with two sportsmanship awards in the sports of women’s lacrosse and women’s tennis. Pace University was the recipient of the baseball sportsmanship award, while Bentley College received the sportsmanship award in men’s lacrosse. In the sport of softball, the Purple Knights of Saint Michael’s College were honored with the sportsmanship award.  Le Moyne College received the honor in men's tennis.

The sportsmanship awards in outdoor track & field went to the Bryant University men’s team, while on the women’s side; the Skyhawks of Stonehill College were the recipient of the award.

In June, one of the 15 conference institutions will receive the ‘David R. Brunk Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award’ as voted on by the conference Senior Women Administrator (SWA) council. Last year, Saint Anselm was selected as the award recipient. In addition, Webster Bank will make a donation annually to a Boys & Girls Club in the name of the winner’s school.

Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any Division II conference.
