Garden City, N.Y.--The Adelphi Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics joined the Department of Physical Education and the
Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Center for
a kick-off reception to mark the 3rd Annual Jennifer Montgomery
Breast Cancer Awareness Event. Administrators, staff, coaches and
student-athletes all gathered in the Adult Fitness room in the
newly renovated Woodruff Hall to help jump start the event.
Assistant VP/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Robert E.
Hartwell gave a few opening remarks about the importance of the
program and the relationships its fostered between Athletics and
the Breast Cancer Hotline. Hillary Rutter, Director of the Hotline
also spoke to the crowd, giving thanks to the department for all of
its support over the past three years.
Athletics will sell t-shirts, hats and other Think Pink items at
pre-determined "Pink" games throughout the month of October.
Jennifer Montgomery, who is in remission and doing well, will be on
hand at each of those events to sing the national anthem.
In addition, the softball team is hosting a clinic on October 18
with proceeds going to the Hotline. There will also be dates in the
Center for Recreation & Sports Atrium and the Ruth S. Harley
University Center, as well as a table under the tent at Homecoming,
to sell these items as well as raffle tickets. For a complete list
of events, go to www.aupanthers.com.
Each athletic team, along with administrative offices on campus,
pitch in to create raffle baskets. Last year's items include
cameras, Ipods and gift certificates to name a few. This year, the
department has also teamed with Embraceable You by Laura and JoAnn,
to sell limited edition hand-made bracelets.
All of the proceeds from the October events will go to the Breast
Cancer Hotline. To date, the Athletic Department has raised over
$12,000.
