Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Garrett Olson, Franklin Pierce (Sr., SS, Norway, ME) - In a doubleheader sweep of Queens, went a combined 6-for-10 (.600) with eight runs scored, four stolen bases, three home runs (2 grand slams), a double and 12 RBI. Slugged 1.600, posted a .636 on-base percentage and was error free in 13 chances at shortstop. Went 4-for-5 (2 HR, 10 RBI, 5 R, BB, 2 SB) in the second game after going 2-for-5 (2B, HR, 3 R, 2 SB, 2 RBI).
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Bryce McKenzie, Bentley (So., SP, Merrimac, MA) - Pitched a complete game five-hitter for his first career win, 11-1 over Pikeville. Struck out four, walked two and allowed only an unearned run.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Matt Iorio, UMass Lowell (Fr., 2B, Andover, MA) - Batted .588 (10-17) with 10 runs and seven RBI in a 5-0 week. Went 5-for-10 (6 RBI, 5 R) in a doubleheader sweep Post University (25-20, 18-4). Batted 2-for-5 (2 R) in a sweep over St. Thomas Aquinas (8-5, 8-4) and 2-for-3 with two runs in an 8-7 win at Saint Leo.
Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll:
Mike Baillargeon, Assumption (Fr., SS, Worcester, MA) Batted .410 (16-39, 4 R, 4 2B, 3 RBI, 3 BB, 3 SB), slugged .513 (20 TB). Went 3-for-6 (2 R, RBI, 2 SB, 2B) in a doubleheader with Saint Anselm, 2-for-4 in games with Eckerd (RBI, 2B) and Florida Tech (R, BB). In a three game set with Saint Leo, went 5-for-11 (.455, R 2 2B, RBI, SB) and made no errors in the field in 15 chances.
Chad Mastin, Bentley (Sr., 3B, Newmarket, NH) - Hit .385 (5-13), homered twice and slugged .846 in a 2-1 week. Scored five runs, drove in four and stole two bases. Went 3-for-4 (3 R) versus Rhode Island College and 2-for-5 (2 R) versus Pikeville.
Scott Savastano, Franklin Pierce (Fr., 3B, Plymouth, MA) - In a doubleheader sweep of Queens hit a combined 4-for-6 (.667) with five runs scored, a double, stolen base and RBI. Was also hit by two pitches and drew a walk to post a .778 on-base percentage, slugged 1.333 and was error-free in three chances at third base. Went 3-for-3 (2 R, HR, RBI) in game one of DH and 1-for-3 (3 R, 2B, SB) in the nightcap.
Elliott Shea, Franklin Pierce (Sr., OF, Jaffrey, NH) - In a doubleheader sweep of Queens hit a combined 6-for-11 (.545) with three runs scored, two doubles, a home run and four RBI. Was 4-for-6 with a homer and two RBI in game two of the twin bill. Hit 2-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two RBI in game one.
Tim Manton, UMass Lowell (So., OF, Swansea, MA) - Batted .500 (10-20) with 14 runs, five RBI and four stolen bases in a 5-0 week. Went 7-for-11 (7 R, 3 RBI) in a sweep of Post University (25-20, 18-4).
Steve Paddock, UMass Lowell (Jr., OF, Milford, MA) - Batted .556 (10-18), with 12 RBI, eight runs and three doubles in a 5-0 week. Went 5-for-8 (6 RBI, 2 2B) in a sweep over Post University (25-20, 18-4). Followed with a 3-for-5 effort (3 RBI) in a sweep of St. Thomas Aquinas (8-5, 8-4) and capped the week in an 8-7 win at Saint Leo, going 2-for-5 (2 RBI, R, 2B).
Patrick Wilson, UMass Lowell (Jr., 1B, Dracut, MA) - Batted .429 (9-21) with 11 RBI and seven runs in a 5-0 week. In a sweep over Post University went 5-for-9 (8 RBI, 5 R) including a grand slam and a three-run home run.
Matt Arburr, Pace (So., 3B, Bristol, CT) - Batted .500 (9-18) with nine RBI, seven runs scored and three homeruns. In a doubleheader versus Wilmington, went 5-for-6 (2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R) in the first game and 3-for-4 (3 RBI, 2 R, 2B, 3B). In game three of the Wilmington series, went 1-for-4 (HR, RBI, 2 R).
Jerod Edmondson, Saint Anselm (Jr., 1B, Johnson City, NY) - Batted .666 with a home run and three RBI in three games. Went 2-for-3 (BB) No. 2 Tampa, and 4-for-7 (HR, 3 RBI) in a doubleheader with Lock Haven
Jeff Farrell, Southern Connecticut (Sr., SP, Naugatuck, CT) - In two games last week, pitched 10 innings, struck out eight, walked one, allowed seven hits and two runs, both earned, for a 1.80 ERA. Pitched two innings of relief in a 7-2 win over Bloomfield and eight innings in a 3-1 win over Caldwell (4 H, R, BB, 5 K).
Nick Czekaj, Southern Connecticut (Jr., 1B, Branford, CT) - In four wins, batted .474 (9-19) with four runs scored, one double and two runs batted in. Went 7-for-10 in a doubleheader versus Caldwell.
Ryan Thompson, Southern New Hampshire (So., 2B, Westford, MA) - Went a combined 4-for-7 with two RBI and three runs scored in a season-opening doubleheader sweep of C.W. Post. Went 3-for-4 (2 R) in a 4-1 victory in game one.
Coley Lyons, Stonehill (Sr., OF, West Roxbury, MA) - Batted .548 (17-31) over last seven games for Skyhawks at Gene Cusic Classic with pair of doubles, triple and nine RBI, including three hits and career-high six RBI in 14-13 10-inning victory over Slippery Rock. Recorded three hits each in setbacks to Ashland, Saginaw Valley State and Regis (Colo.)

SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Penmen opened their 2006 season by sweeping a doubleheader at C.W. Post Saturday (4-1, 10-3). The teams were scheduled to play a third game Sunday, but it was postponed due to rain. SNHU is ranked 10th in this week's NCBWA Northeast regional pollFRANKLIN PIERCE: Franklin Pierce has cracked the top ten in this week's Collegiate Baseball magazine Division II rankings. It marks just the second time in program history the Ravens have been ranked in the top ten after earning a No. 7 ranking following its semifinal appearance in the 2003 World Series. The Ravens are winners of eight-straight and are off to an 8-1 start for the first time in school history. Junior All-American Garrett Olson (Norway, Maine) hit three homers in the Ravens doubleheader at Queens on Saturday, including a pair of grand slams in the nightcap. He is just the tenth player in NCAA Division II history to hit a record two slams in one game - the first since 2001. Olson also drove in a school-record ten RBI in the game, making him one of just 22 in Division II history with ten or more RBI - the first since 2003 and just three shy of the DII record of 13. Franklin Pierce starters allowed its first runs in 24.2 innings when Queens scored a single run with one out in the bottom of the first of game two on Saturday. The Ravens have scored in the first inning in seven of their nine games this season (6-1 record) and in 13-of-16 dating back to last season. Franklin Pierce has outscored the opposition 66-12 over the first three innings this seasonBENTLEY: Senior RF GJ Vicente (Salem, N.H.) became the third active Falcon to reach the century mark in career hits, joining 3B Chad Mastin (Newmarket, N.H.) and SS Steve Gath (Reading, Mass.). Both Mastin and Gath recorded their 100th hit last seasonSOUTHERN CONNECTICUT: Coach Tim Shea's Owls have won four straight games up north after dropping four games in early February to Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga. Southern topped Bloomfield and Caldwell (a doubleheader win) from the CACC as well as C.W. Post from the NYCAC in regional action. First baseman Nick Czekaj batted .474 in the four games and third baseman Jose Ortiz, Jr., hit .438 to lead the Owls. Freshman Kevin Bowerman stepped in after starting second baseman Joe Kahlden broke his nose and, in three games, batted .455 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Lefthander Jeff Farrell pitched in relief of lefty Mat Hennessey against Bloomfield and pitched eight innings as the starter against Caldwell, allowing just seven hits and two runs in 10 innings. Hennessey also pitched well along with right-handed starters Joe Vingo, who picked up a win against Caldwell, and Josh Terletzky, who registered a win at C.W. PostASSUMPTION: Traveled to Tampa, FL last week on their annual spring break trip. Several Greyhounds performed well on the trip. Freshman Jeff Barbale (Charlton, MA/St. Peter-Marian), in his first collegiate start, pitched a seven-hit shut out of Saint Anselm, striking out three and walking just one. Freshman Steve Scannell (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) had his first career four-hit game (4-for-4, run scored, stolen base) in the final game with Saint Leo, FL. Scannell went 5-for-11 (.455) in the three game series with Saint Leo, FL. Sophomore Chris DeSimone (Johnston, RI/Bishop Hendricken) went-2-for-5 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader with Saint Anselm and drove in the winning run in the 10th inning with an RBI single. Sophomore CJ Martin (Smithfield, RI/Bishop Hendricken) currently has a 7-game hit streak.
