Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Patrick Wilson, UMass Lowell (Jr., 1B, Dracut, MA) - Batted 10-for-23 (.435) with eight RBI, six runs, three stolen bases and a triple in a 5-1 week. Opened the Bentley series hitting 2-for-7 (2 RBI, R) in a 3-1, 3-7 split. Batted a collective 4-for-9 (5 RBI, 3 R, SB) in a 9-1, 6-1 sweep over Saint Anselm. Capped the week going 4-for-7 (2 R, RBI, 2 SB) in a 7-4, 9-3 sweep at Saint Anselm.
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Daniel Fournier, Franklin Pierce (Jr., SP, Worcester, MA) - Tossed a no-hitter (4th in program history) in an 8-1 win over Southern Connecticut. Struck out career-high 18 batters.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Tim Keene, UMass Lowell (Fr., 3B, Berlin, NH) - Batted .563 (9-16) with four runs, four walks, three RBI, a double and a home run in a 5-1 week. Opened the week batting 3-for-6 in a split against Bentley. Batted 2-for-4 (2B, SB) in a 9-1 win over Saint Anselm. Had a 2-for-3 effort (3 R, 2 BB, RBI) in a 7-4 win versus Saint Anselm and 2-for-3 (HR, 2 RBI, BB) in the nightcap in a 9-3 win.
Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll:
Terry Loh, American International (Jr., SP, Milford, CT) - Pitched 14 innings without allowing a run and posted a 1-0 record. Picked up a win and allowed just one hit in five innings against Bridgeport, then scattered eight hits in eight shutout innings against Merrimack in an eventual 1-0 win. Struck out 11 batters while walking just four and held opponents to a .180 batting average.
Matt Cavallaro, Assumption (Sr., 1B, West Haven, CT) - Batted .438 (7-16, 3 R, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI) and slugged .750 (12 TB) last week. Went 2-for-5 (2B, RBI) at Pace, 2-for-4 (R) at New Haven, and 3-for-4 (R, 2B, HR, RBI) in game one against Bloomfield.
Jake Perkins, Bentley (Sr., SP, East Bridgewater, MA) - Pitched a four-hitter as Bentley edged Southern Connecticut, 3-2. Walked one, struck out one and allowed only one earned run.
Adam Vuolo, Bryant (So., SP, Walpole, MA) - Threw 11 innings last week all coming after the 8th inning of play. Registered two wins, a 0.00 ERA and picked up a save. Allowed just two hits and no runs. Walked just two batters and stuck out nine.
Elliott Shea, Franklin Pierce (Sr., OF, Jaffrey, NH) - Hit .444 (8-18) with five runs scored, two doubles, two stolen bases, a home run and four RBI in five games. Also slugged .722 and posted a .500 on-base percentage. Was a combined 6-for-11 (.546, 4 R, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI) in the three-game weekend series against Stonehill. Hit 3-for-4 (HR, 2 R, 3 RBI) in an 8-2 win in game one with Stonehill.
Mike Coppinger, Merrimack (So., SP, Medway, MA) - Struck out 10 in eight shutout innings against AIC. Allowed just three hits to earn the win.
Jack Cawley, Pace (So., OF, Bronx, NY) - Hit .429 (9-21) for the week, with two doubles, four RBI and five runs scored. Against Assumption, was 3-for-4 (2 2B, 4 RBI). Against Southern New Hampshire, was 2-for-4 in the first game, and 3-for-5 (3 R) in the second game.
Earl Oakes, Pace (Jr., RP, Bristol, CT) - Converted three saves and struck out seven over 4 1/3 innings last week. Struck out three in 1 1/3 innings in a 4-2 win against Assumption. Against Assumption two days later, gave up one run on three hits in one inning worked to pick up a save in a 7-3 win. Against Southern New Hampshire, pitched the final two innings of a 3-2 win, striking out three and giving up one hit.
Ryan Williams, Saint Anselm (Jr., SP, Lynnfield, MA) - Earned a complete game win at Stonehill, giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out nine and walking only two.
Jeff Farrell, Southern Connecticut (Sr., SP, Naugatuck, CT) - Defeated No. 11 Franklin Pierce with a complete game effort. Allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked none.
Jim McLaughlin, Southern Connecticut (Jr., C, Medway, MA) - Went 7-for-14, including five extra base hits, playing in four games of a 3-2 week. Scored three runs and drove in four while slugging 1.071. Walked once for a .533 on-base percentage. Against No. 11 Franklin Pierce, went 4-for-4 (3 2B, 3B, R) in a 5-2 win. Went 3-for-4 (HR) in a win over Bentley.
Joe Breen, Stonehill (Sr., SP, Swampscott, MA) - Posted a 1-0 mark with a pair of saves, a 0.00 ERA and limited opponents to .176 batting average in three appearances on the week, including eight innings of six-hit ball with a career-high 11 strikeouts in a 10-3 victory over Saint Anselm. Picked up both saves with 1 1/3 innings of relief work in two victories over 11th-ranked Franklin Pierce (3-1 and 3-2), did not allow a hit and had a strike out.
Brian Nelson, Stonehill (Sr., SP, Greenville, RI) - Scattered eight hits over 9 2/3 innings while allowing one run and fanning two in a 3-1 10-inning victory at 11th-ranked Franklin Pierce.
Northeast-10 Weekly Notes:
UMASS LOWELL: Off to its best start in the program's history at 20-3, UMass Lowell had an 11-game winning streak halted with Thursday's 7-3 setback at Bentley. However, the River Hawks rebounded with four straight over Saint Anselm Friday and Sunday and face a critical test over the next 10 days with two against Southern Connecticut, three against Southern New Hampshire and two following with Franklin Pierce. Junior Peter Nickerson improved to 4-0 Friday in UML's 6-1 win over Saint Anselm. Freshman Tim Keene batted 9 for 16 (.563) last week while junior Patrick Wilson went 10 for 23 (.435) in a 5-1 week?STONEHILL: In taking two out of three over the weekend from 11th-ranked Franklin Pierce, Stonehill snapped a 13-game winless streak against the Ravens that dated back to April 2002 and posted its first triumph over a ranked opponent since last April. Ten of Stonehill's 11 victories to date have come in region, as the Skyhawks sport a 10-4 mark against NCAA Northeast Regional foes. Senior P Billy Sittig (West Roxbury, Mass.) tied the school career strikeouts record by fanning three on Saturday at Franklin Pierce, as he currently shares the record with former Stonehill standout Mark Henry '03 at 237?BRYANT: Bryant played back-to-back 13 inning games on Thursday and Saturday winning them both allowing just one run in each game. The Bulldogs held opponents to just four runs, two of them earned in their last four games. They have also only allowed 26 hits in the last 44 innings?SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT: Junior RHP Josh Terletzky has won his last four starts since losing to nationally-ranked Armstrong Atlantic in February. He has an ERA of 1.59 during his winning streak. Senior LHP Jeff Farrell is averaging 1.40 walks per nine innings. Four of the Owls' five starting pitchers have allowed less hits than innings pitched. Junior C Jim McLaughlin hit .500 last week while the rest of his team hit .192. McLaughlin has raised his batting average 77 points in his last three games (.244 to .321). The Owls struck out 18 times in being no hit on March 28, but only eight times combined in four games since. Six of Southern's eight losses have come to nationally-ranked teams?SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Penmen were ranked fourth in New England by the NEIBA and ninth in the Northeast by the NCBWA last week. SNHU has already posted five shutouts this season. The record for shutouts in a season is six set during the 1994 season?FRANKLIN PIERCE: Franklin Pierce, ranked 11th in last week's Collegiate Baseball magazine poll, played error-free in five games last week (184 chances). Junior righthander Daniel Fournier (Worcester, Mass.) started the week for the Ravens in fine fashion, tossing the fourth no-hitter in program history (first since 2002) with a career-best 18 strikeouts. The no-hitter was the Ravens first in Northeast-10 play and first against an NCAA Division II opponent. Fournier's 18 strikeouts were two shy of Justin Blood's school-record of 20 set in 2001. Junior Garrett Olson (Norway, Maine) saw his team-leading 16-game hitting streak halted on Sunday. Senior Elliott Shea (Jaffrey, N.H.) has joined former All-American Eric Cavers atop the program's career stolen base list with 57 thefts. Franklin Pierce has dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season after losing the last two games of its three-game series with Stonehill. After an off day on Monday, the Ravens will look to rebound with eight games over the remaining six days this week?BENTLEY: Junior first baseman Tom Haugh (Andover, Mass.) recorded his 100th career hit, becoming the fourth member of this year's team to have reached the century mark. Senior Bill Dacier (Medway, Mass.), who has already set a career-best for hits in a season (28), owns a nine-game hitting streak?AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL: The 12 runs AIC scored in a game twice last week is the highest single-game output since a 12-9 win over Bentley on April 18, 2004. The 12-run margin of victory in the Yellow Jackets' 12-0 shutout of Bridgeport in the largest since a 19-6 win over Saint Anselm on April 21, 2001. Terry Loh (Milford, Conn.) has not allowed a run in his last 17 innings of work?ASSUMPTION: Senior relief pitcher Nick Andrade (East Providence, RI/East Providence) has been stellar in the bullpen for the Greyhounds this season. In 11.2 innings pitched, he has given up only one earned run (0.77 ERA), six hits, nine strike outs, and three walks while opposing batters are hitting just .146 off him. Freshman outfielder Steve Scannell (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) had his second four-hit game this season at Pace.
