Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Kevin Renaud, Franklin Pierce (Jr., OF, Southbridge, MA) - Earned
Most Outstanding Player honors at the NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional by hitting .500 (8-for-16, 5R, 42B, 3HR, SB, 9RBI) while
slugging 1.313 and recording a .526 on-base percentage. Hit 3-for-5
with a pair of home runs, a stolen base, two runs scored and three
RBI in the 5-2 victory over Bryant. Opened the regional by going
3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI in
a 4-1 win over Wilmington. Batted 1-for-2 with a double and four
RBI in a 7-2 win over Adelphi. Doubled in the 9-4 win over UMass
Lowell.
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Brent Almeida, Bryant (Fr., SP, Fairhaven, MA) - Pitched a
complete-game three-hit shutout in a 10-0 victory over Adelphi.
Struck out seven while being named to the all-tournament team.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Nick Campbell, Bryant (Fr., OF, Raynham, MA) - Was 7-for-20 this
past week at the Northeast Regional. Had a homer, double and five
RBI in a 10-0 win over Adelphi. Drove in seven runs overall.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Eric Loh, Bryant (Jr., SP, Old Greenwich, CT) - Pitched a
complete-game, allowing just one run in a 5-1 victory over
Wilmington.
Mike Rocco, Bryant (Sr., 1B, Tewksbury, MA) - Had seven hits in 21
at-bats with a double and three RBI to lead Bryant to a second
place finish in the Northeast Regional.
Mike Adams, Franklin Pierce (So., SP, Orchard Park, NY) –
Pitched eight strong innings in the opening round of the NCAA
Northeast Regional in a 4-1 win over Wilmington. Allowed an earned
run (in the first inning) on six hits with two strikeouts and a
walk.
Jake Christman, Franklin Pierce (Sr., 2B, Newton, MA) - Earned
All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Northeast Regional, hitting
.385 (5-for-13) with two runs scored, a double, triple, two stolen
bases and two RBI. Slugged .615 and posted a .500 on-base
percentage while playing error-free in 22 chances at second base.
Was 2-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases, two RBI and an RBI in
9-4 win over UMass Lowell. Batted 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI in
7-2 victory over Adelphi.
Keith Renaud, Franklin Pierce (Jr., SP, Southbridge, MA) - Earned
All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Northeast Regional.
Scattered two hits and three walks over seven shutout innings in
the 5-2 victory over Bryant with ten strikeouts. Also collected a
hit in the victory.
Scott Savastano, Franklin Pierce (So., 3B , Plymouth, MA) - Earned
All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Northeast Regional
tournament, hitting .313 (5-for-16) with three runs scored, a
double, home run and four RBI. Batted 2-for-4 with a home run in a
5-2 championship round win over Bryant. Hit 2-for-4 with a double,
run and two RBI in 9-4 win over UMass Lowell. Drove in a run in the
win over Wilmington.
Jerod Edmondson, UMass Lowell (Sr., 1B, Johnson City, NY) - Hit
.556 (5-for-9) with a home run, three runs and two RBI this past
week at the Northeast Regional. Went 1-for-4 with a solo home run
against Caldwell and collected four hits, with three runs and an
RBI against Franklin Pierce.
Weekly Notes:
BRYANT: Pitcher Brent Almeida, first-baseman Mike
Rocco, and center fielder Nick Campbell were named to the
All-Tournament team. Bryant lost to Franklin Pierce 5-2 in the
Regional Championship game, capping a stellar season.
FRANKLIN PIERCE: The Ravens clinched its
second-straight NCAA Division II Northeast Regional championship
with a 5-2 victory over fifth-seeded Bryant on Sunday. The Ravens,
making their third trip to the Division II Baseball Championships
in Montgomery, Ala., will open play on Saturday, May 26, at
Riverwalk Stadium (team and time TBA). Northeast Regional MVP Kevin
Renaud (Southbridge, Mass.) broke the program's single-season RBI
record of 62, set by assistant coach Bryan Duplissie in 2006, with
his 65 RBI so far this season. Senior Vinny Pennell (Spencer,
Mass.) collected his 248th career hit on Sunday, matching the
program record set by former teammate Elliot Shea in 2006.
Pennell's 27 stolen bases this season is just one shy of Shea's
single-season record in 2006. Franklin Pierce has posted a program
record 49-wins so far this season, breaking or matching the team
win record for the ninth-straight year.
