Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Kevin Rivers, Franklin Pierce (So., OF, Bristol, Conn.) - Led
Franklin Pierce to its second-straight Northeast-10 Tournament
title, hitting .467 (7-for-15) with five runs scored, a double,
four home runs and ten RBI. Hit 2-for-3 with a home run and four
RBI in the opening round win over Bentley. Was 2-for-3 with a pair
of solo homers in Friday's win over Southern Connecticut. Finished
3-for-5 with a double, homer, two runs and four RBI in the win over
Bryant.
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Tyler Bishop, Franklin Pierce (Sr., RP, Milford, N.H.) - Named MVP
of the 2008 Northeast-10 Championship. Picked up saves in two of
the four wins en route to the title, striking out four in a
combined 3.2 innings of work over the two appearances. Posted a
two-inning save to preserve Friday's 5-2 victory over Southern
Connecticut. Struck out two in 1.2 innings to seal Saturday's 10-9
win over top-seeded Bryant.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Derek Ingui, Franklin Pierce (Fr., DH, Sterling, Mass.) - Hit .438
(7-for-16) with four runs scored, a home run and two RBI in the
NE-10 Championship. Slugged .625 and was successful on both stolen
base attempts for the week. Was 2-for-5 with a stolen base and run
scored in the first round win over Bentley. Hit 2-for-4 with two
runs scored in the win over Bryant. Batted 3-for-5 with a stolen
base, home run and two RBI in the championship victory over
Southern Connecticut.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Pat McKenna, Bryant (Jr., SS, Orange, Conn.) - Hit .600 (6-for-10)
in three NE-10 Tournament games, including a two-run home run in a
win over Pace. Recorded four RBI and three runs scored while
slugging .900 with a .667 on-base percentage.
Dylan Stone, Bryant (So., 1B, Portsmouth, R.I.) - Hit .545
(6-for-11) with two runs scored in three games at the NE-10
Tournament. Slugged .545 as well with an on-base percentage of
.583.
Mike Adams, Franklin Pierce (Jr., SP, Orchard Park, N.Y.) - Posted
a win and a save in the Northeast-10 Tournament Championship.
Allowed just an earned run on two hits with 14 strikeouts over 8.2
innings in his two appearances for a 1.04 ERA for the week. Earned
the win in seven innings of work in the first round win over
Bentley. Allowed just an earned run on just one hit with 12
strikeouts over seven innings of work. Closed out Sunday's NE-10
Championship game with 1.2 scoreless innings of work, escaping a
bases-loaded, one out jam in the eighth, striking out two.
Brian Maloney, Franklin Pierce (So., SP, Brockton, Mass.) - Allowed
just an earned run on five hits with nine strikeouts to earn the
win in Friday's NE-10 Tournament victory over Southern
Connecticut.
Scott Savastano, Franklin Pierce (Jr., SS, Plymouth, Mass.) - Hit
.500 (7-for-14) with five runs scored, two stolen bases, a double
and RBI in the Ravens four wins en route to the NE-10 title.
Slugged .571 and posted a .632 on-base percentage for the week. Was
2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in the first round
win over Bentley. Hit 2-for-4 with a run scored in the win over
Bryant. Batted 2-for-3 with a stolen base and run scored in
Sunday's championship game win over Southern Connecticut.
Taylor von Kriegenbergh, UMass Lowell (So., 1B, Stoneham, Mass.) -
Led the River Hawks offensively going 5-for-10 with two runs batted
in and a run scored. Went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the 3-1 win over
Stonehill to clinch a playoff spot. Went 2-for-4 against Pace in
the NE-10 first round playoff game.
Jeffrey Maloney, UMass Lowell (Jr., SP, Haverhill, Mass.) - Earned
the win in the 3-1 victory over Stonehill to clinch a playoff spot.
Allowed just one run on five hits and struck out six over 7.2
innings.
Dustin Corbett, Pace (Sr., SP, Vestal, N.Y.) - Tossed a shutout
over 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and struck out seven in the
NE-10 Tournament first round win over UMass Lowell.
Mackenzie King, Pace (So., RP , Blairstown, N.J.) - Appeared in all
three NE-10 Tournament games, posting a 1.59 ERA in 5.2 innings,
allowing six hits and struck out six. Tossed 2.1 innings while
allowing one hit and struck out three in the NE-10 first round win
over UMass Lowell. Retired the only batter he faced in the
semifinal opener against Bryant. Pitched three innings, allowing
one earned run and struck three in the elimination game against
Southern Connecticut.
Andre Liscinsky, Pace (Jr., SS, Trumbull, Conn.) - Batted .500
(6-for-12) and slugged .667 with three runs scored, three RBI, a
triple and a stolen base. Went 3-for-5 with a two-run triple and
scored two runs in the NE-10 Tournament opening win over UMass
Lowell. Went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the semifinal opener against
Bryant.
Andrew Babb, Southern Connecticut (Fr., OF, Hopkinton, Mass.) - Hit
.333 (7-for-21) with three RBI and two runs in five games last
week. Batted .313 (5-for-16) with two RBI and a run in four games
at the Northeast-10 Championships.
Nick Carlucci, Southern Connecticut (Sr., SP, Franklin, Mass.) -
Threw eight shutout innings, gave up five hits, walked two and
struck out six to pick up the win against Bryant at the
Northeast-10 Championships.
Paul Izzo, Southern Connecticut (Sr., OF, Cohoes, N.Y.) - Hit .389
(7-for-18) with one double, one homerun, six RBI and four runs
scored in a 3-2 week. Hit .357 (5-for-14) with a homerun, four RBI
and three runs over four games at the Northeast-10
Championships.
Toby Nylin, Southern Connecticut (Sr., SP, Pleasant Valley, Conn.)
- Tossed a complete-game four-hitter, gave up one run, walked one
and struck out 11 in the win over Pace at the Northeast-10
Championships.
Weekly Notes:
BENTLEY: Freshman James Roche (Arlington, Mass.)
became the first Bentley player in 11 years to lead the team in the
three triple crown categories (AVG, HR, RBI), with a minimum of
three HR. His .521 slugging percentage was the best by a Falcon
since the conference shifted to wood in 2003. Junior Jarrod
Marchesi (Peabody, Mass.) set Bentley single season records for
wins (8) and innings pitched (98.1).
PACE: In the NE-10 Tournament opening round win
over UMass Lowell, senior pitcher Dustin Corbett became the Setters
all-time leader in strikeouts with 199 and innings pitched with
240. Corbett passed David Qualben's (2004-06) 196 career strikeout
mark and moved passed Matt Reilly's (2003-06) 238 2/3 innings
pitched record.
