Assumptions Migrants Named NE-10 Baseball Player of the Year

South Easton, Mass. – Assumption College senior outfielder Derek Migrants (Ayer, Mass.) was named the 2010 Northeast-10 Player of the Year as voted by the conference's head coaches.
Migrants started all 48 games for Assumption this season as he led the conference in hitting through the regular season with a .425 batting average. Migrants collected 79 hits throughout the year and in the process became the all-time leader in Greyhound history with 268 career hits. He also became the programs first Triple Crown winner (.425, 6 HR, 44 RBI) since Bill Betrand in 2002. Migrants finished the season with a slugging percentage of .640, an on-base percentage of .469 to go along with 18 doubles and 44 runs scored. In addition, Migrants played a flawless outfield as he recorded zero errors this season. The three-time All-Northeast-10 selection received First Team honors for the second straight season.
Franklin Pierce sophomore Jose Macias (Bronx, N.Y.) was selected the 2010 Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year. Macias currently leads the conference and ranks among the top of the Division II leaders in a number of statistical categories this year. Through the regular season Macias is a perfect 8-0 and has a conference low earned run average of 0.93, which is second lowest nationally. Through 68 innings of work he has surrendered only 35 hits, 11 runs (7 ER), struck out 95 batters and held opposing hitters to a conference low .150 batting average. Macias ranks seventh overall in Division II in total strikeouts and is third in hits per nine innings. In addition, he was named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team for the first time in his career.
Southern Connecticut State University outfielder Mike Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) was tabbed the 2010 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year. In his first year of collegiate action, Cleary helped lead the Owls to the Northeast-10 Regular Season title as they finished conference play with a 21-5 record. Cleary is currently hitting .331 on the year which is ninth best in the conference. He has recorded 33 runs, 54 hits and has driven in 30 runs. Cleary has committed only three errors all season in the outfield for a .970 fielding percentage. He was also named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team and All-Rookie Team.
Pace University'sBrian Sundberg (Westbury, N.Y.) was named the 2010 Northeast-10 Freshman Pitcher of the Year. Sundberg concluded his first season of collegiate play with a 5-1 record. He finished the season currently ranked in the top 20 in the conference with an earned run average of 2.41. Sundberg also picked up three complete games and held opposing hitters to a .219 batting average. In addition, Sundberg was named to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team.
Southern Connecticut's Tim Shea was voted the 2010 Northeast-10 Coach of the Year by his peers. This marks the third time in his career that Shea has been honored. He earned the award first in 2005 and again in 2008. Shea guided the Owls to the team's first conference regular season title since 2005 after finishing conference play with a 21-5 record. Southern Connecticut also earned the top seed in this weekend's NE-10 Baseball Championship.
With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
