Notes:
Franklin Pierce: Franklin Pierce is seeded first and will host the 2005 NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Thursday through Saturday at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. The Ravens, who captured their first Northeast-10 Baseball Tournament Championship on Sunday, will host the regional for the first time in school history and are making their second NCAA Tournament appearance. Franklin Pierce swept through the 2003 Northeast Regional, 3-0, to reach the College World Series in Montgomery, Ala., before advancing to the National Semifinal round. Junior co-captain Randy Fenton (Worcester, Mass.) earned Tournament MVP honors and is hitting a team-best .519 (14-27) in eight games played in the month of May. The Ravens, who lead the Conference in many offensive categories, have set a school record with 15 triples this season. Their 102 doubles are one shy of the school mark. Junior Mike Chambers (Londonderry, N.H.) carries a 14-game hitting streak into this weekend's regional, while sophomore Garrett Olson (Norway, Maine) has hit safely in 13-straight. Junior Bryan Duplissie (East Swanzey, N.H.) picked up the program's second-straight Conference Player of the Year award over the weekend, joining Eric Cavers as the only two players to earn the award in program history ? Stonehill: Stonehill advanced to the Northeast-10 championship round for the second time in four seasons and for the third time in six years, as the Chieftains have now competed in the double elimination format of the conference tournament seven times in Head Coach Patrick Boen's eight-year tenure. Junior P Billy Sittig (West Roxbury, Mass.) became the first Chieftain to earn a major conference individual award since 2002 in being named as the 2005 Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year, as he tossed a one-hitter over eight innings of work in Wednesday's 5-0 first round win over Saint Anselm. Sittig's nine victories on the year ranks as the second highest single-season total in school history, trailing only former Northeast-10 Player of the Year Mark Langone's total of 10 in 2000. Senior OF Tim Flynn (Clifton Park, N.Y.) ended his career ranked seventh on Stonehill's career hits list with 146 and also set a Chieftain career record with 18 outfield assists. Stonehill has won 27 or more games in five of the last six seasons ? Bryant: Bryant placed five players on the 2005 Northeast-10 All-Conference Baseball Team. Mickey Ryan (Lowell, Mass.), a third-team selection concludes his career ranked second all-time in Bryant baseball history with 192 career games played and third with 216 career hits. Stephen Sloan (Franklin, Mass) concludes his career ranked third in school history with 18 wins ? Bentley: Bentley finished the season in style, a come-from-behind 5-4 win over St. Rose that ended on a walk-off two-run two-out single by junior 3B Chad Mastin (Newmarket, N.H.) on an 0-2 pitch. During the month of May, the Falcons were 6-2 with a 1.52 ERA. Tim Bryant (Reading, Mass.) finished his career with a 3.76 ERA, fifth best in school history. Also on Bentley's all-time lists, he's number one in innings (251.1), tied for first in shutouts (5), second in complete games (17), third in games started (32) and tied for second in wins (16) ? Saint Rose: Saint Rose dropped its final two games of the year versus Bentley and thus the Golden Knights were denied a postseason appearance for the second consecutive year. It marks the first time that that has occurred during the program?s 14-year history of competing exclusively at the NCAA II level. The Golden Knights were forced to play their final 14 league games over a 12-day span and at one point played nine contests within a six-day stretch, including back-to-back-to-back doubleheaders. Saint Rose wound up 15-15 in league play, but went just 3-10 in 13 road contests. Only two players on the club?s roster appeared in all 13 of those games.
