Player of the Week
Garrett Olson, Franklin Pierce (So., 3B, Norway, ME) ? In a 4-3 week, hit .500 (14-28) with 12 runs scored, three doubles, a home run, five RBI and hit safely in all seven games. Slugged .714 and registered a .588 on-base percentage. Was 3-for-5 (2B, 3 R) in win over Eckerd. Was 3-for-3 (2B, HR, 3 R) in game two of a four game set with Minnesota-Duluth. Went 4-for-5 (2 RBI, 3 R) in game four of the series.
Pitcher of the Week
Eric Grabowski, Franklin Pierce (So., SP, Worcester, MA) - Did not yield an earned run in 9.1 innings over two appearances. Earned a CG win over No. 1-ranked University of Tampa, yielding an unearned run on four hits with eight strikeouts. Came on to retire the final batter in Friday's extra-innings win over Minnesota-Duluth.
Freshman of the Week
Steve Carr, Franklin Pierce (Fr., C, Lynn, MA) - Hit .333 (5-15) with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored and two RBI in five games. Was 3-for-5 (2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) in a win at Eckerd. Was 2-3 (2B, R) in Friday's game one victory over Minnesota-Duluth.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Tim Bryant, Bentley (Sr., SP, Reading, MA) - Pitched a six-hitter in a 4-1 win over UMass Lowell. Needed only 93 pitches in the route-going effort as he walked only one and struck out four.
Chad Mastin, Bentley (Jr., 3B, Newmarket, NH) - In a DH split with UMass-Lowell, was 3-for-8 (R). Handled 10 chances in the field without an error.
Mike Chambers, Franklin Pierce (Jr., 2B, Londonderry, MA) - Hit .333 (10-30) with four doubles, two home runs, a team-high 12 RBI and seven runs scored in a 4-3 week, and slugged.667. Was error-free in 33 chances. Was 3-for-6 (2B, HR, 4 RBI, 3 R) in an extra-innings win over Minnesota-Duluth. Registered two RBI in wins over Eckerd and No. 1 Tampa and was 2-for-5 (2B) at Florida Tech.
Pete Nickerson, UMass Lowell (So., SP, Dracut, MA) - Scattered five hits, two runs (1 earned) and one walk while striking out three over 6 and 1/3 innings in an 8-2 win at Bentley.
David Qualben, Pace (So., SP, Brooklyn, NY) - Went 1-1 with a 0.69 ERA in two starts. Tossed a two hitter over eight innings with 11 strikeouts (retired 14 in a row, 22 of 23) in a shutout win. Went five innings, scattering four hits , allowing one earned run and striking out five in loss at Yale.
Joe Mariano, Saint Rose (Sr., C, Troy, NY) - Hit .500 (3-6) with a double and RBI in a three-game set at No. 19 Florida Gulf Coast. Went 2-for-3 (2B) in the opener and 1-for-2 (R) in the series finale.
Justin Cox, Southern Connecticut (Fr., SP, Newburgh, NY) ? Tossed seven innings allowing two unearned runs (2BB, 5 K) in a 2-1 loss to Florida Southern.
Bob Pentino, Southern Connecticut (Sr., 2B, Hamden, CT) ? In a 0-2 week, hit.429 (3-7) with an RBI, had a .500 on-base percentage and slugged.429. Added six assists.
Notes: Northeast-10: In this week?s (top 10) NCBWA Northeast Regional Poll, Franklin Pierce is No. 1, Saint Anselm is No. 2, Bryant is No. 3, Southern Connecticut and Stonehill are tied at No. 4, Saint Rose is No. 6, and UMass Lowell is No. 7. In last week?s NCBWA Division II poll (3/21), Saint Anselm was tied for 24th, while Southern Connecticut, Saint Rose, Bryant and Stonehill were receiving votes ? Bentley: When Tim Bryant (Reading, Mass.) issued a fifth inning walk against UMass-Lowell Saturday, it was the first free pass he had issued in 31.2 innings, dating back to last season, and his only walk in 25.2 innings this spring ? Franklin Pierce: The Ravens are ranked #30 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Division II coaches poll. Franklin Pierce posted its first win in program history against a top-ranked team with Tuesday's 4-1 victory at No. 1 Tampa.
