Northeast-10: In the first NCAA Northeast Regional Poll (4/27), Southern Connecticut is No. 1, Franklin Pierce is No. 2, UMass Lowell is No. 3, Stonehill is No. 4, Adelphi is No. 5, Concordia (NY) is No. 6, Dowling is No. 7, and Molloy is No. 8 ? Southern Connecticut: Southern's team ERA is currently a season-low 1.96, good for tops in all of Division II baseball. The Owls currently have two starting pitchers among the top 30 in Division II in ERA. Freshman Justin Cox (Newburgh, N.Y.) is currently third, and junior left-hander Matt Hennessey (Wallingford, Conn.) is 28th. As a team, the Owls are currently the top-ranked squad in three different polls. In the first NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Poll, announced on Wednesday, April 27th, the Owls are ranked first. Southern is also the top team in the NEIBA and NCBWA regional polls. In the Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Poll (April 25), Southern is ranked 26th ? Franklin Pierce: The Ravens were ranked No. 29 for the third-straight week in Collegiate Baseball magazine's Division II Coaches poll last week. Franklin Pierce was also ranked second in the first NCAA Division II Northeast Regional rankings of the season. Sophomore Matt Fisher (Athol, Mass.) collected two saves last week and surpassed his own program single-season record with four saves this season (seven career). Junior Elliott Shea (Jaffrey, N.H.) suffered an injury at Southern New Hampshire, forcing him to miss the first four games of his collegiate career. The injury snapped a streak of 133 consecutive games played, which was just five shy of former teammate Eric Cavers school record. Shea returned on Sunday and was a combined 4-for-8 in a doubleheader split with UMass Lowell. Junior Shawn Hayes (Charlton, Mass.) had a 17-game hitting streak snapped on Sunday ? Stonehill: Stonehill, 21-10 in NCAA Northeast Regional play, has now reached the 20-win plateau in all eight of Head Coach Patrick Boen's campaigns. The Chieftains were ranked fifth in both the NEIBA and NCBWA regional polls last week. Junior P Billy Sittig's (West Roxbury, Mass.) eight victories ranks him tied for third on Stonehill's single-season wins list, two shy of the school record of 10 set by 1999 Northeast-10 Player of the Year Mark Langone in 2000. Freshman OF David Fradette (Goffstown, N.H.) collected his first collegiate home run in his hometown, as his round-tripper came on Sunday afternoon at Saint Anselm's Sullivan Park ? UMass Lowell: Three UMass Lowell players achieved school records over the week, led by senior lefty Brad Laurin who surpassed UML?s career strikeout record. Laurin fanned nine in UML?s 4-3 loss Saturday in Rindge, NH, to increase his total to 269 strikeouts, surpassing the previous school record of 265 set by Nate Linstad (1998-2001). Sophomore pitcher Ronnie Nelson achieved the single season school record for saves with his 10th in last week?s 6-3 win at Saint Anselm. The milestone eclipsed the previous mark of nine set by David Ouellette in 2003. Senior DH Nate Liebenow shattered the career record for triples with his 13th in Sunday?s 8-1 win over Franklin Pierce. Liebenow, who overtook the previous record of 12 shared by Paul Hamilton (1976-79), Ken Connerty (1980-83) and Rob Aziz (1989-90, ?93), led off the bottom half of the first with the milestone hit, scored, and left the game to attend the Portsmouth (NH) Police Department entry exam. Liebenow currently has six triples this season, one shy of tying the single season school record of seven held by Dick Kiluk (1985) and Larry Rodgers (1995). Head Coach Ken Harring posted the 100th win of his career, ironically, in a 6-3 victory at Saint Anselm ? Bentley: Four Bentley players are closing in on the century mark in career hits. Junior 3B Chad Mastin (Newmarket, N.H.) begins the week with 98, senior Tim Bryant (Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Steve Gath (Reading, Mass.) each have 93, and junior GJ Vicente (Salem, N.H.) has 92. With 233.1 career innings pitched, Bryant is only 15.2 innings shy of the school record. Bentley has had 9+ hits in seven of its last eight games after doing so in only four times in the previous 20 ? Assumption: Senior infielder Chris Colabello (Milford, MA/Milford) went 1-for-4 at Saint Rose on Sunday to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.
