Jan 6, 2006

January 6, 2006 Southern Connecticut senior wide receiver Jim Lukowiak (Brick, N.J.), who set numerous team and New England records this season while leading the Owls to the NCAA Division II playoffs, caught five passes for 73 yards and a touchdown Friday night in the sixth annual Cactus Bowl All-Star game at Texas A&M Kingsville's Javelina Stadium.

The Cactus Bowl features many of the top Division II senior players in the nation. The West team beat Lukowiak's East team in this year's game, 49-33.

Lukowiak, who led the East team in receiving yards in the game, hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joey Conrad of Glenville (WV) State in the fourth quarter.

The recipient of the 2005 Boston Globe Gold Helmet as the season's outstanding Division II-III football player in New England and the 2005 Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Lukowiak set eight team records this season including touchdown receptions in a season with 17; touchdown receptions in a career with 40, on 119 career receptions; and receiving yards in a season with 1,311 on 63 receptions (119.2 yards per game).

The senior also made his mark as a return specialist, setting two New England Division II records and tying another. He returned punts of 81 and 91 yards for scores in the first quarter of a 77-35 win over Bryant, tying a New England mark for punt returns for touchdowns in a game. His 408 all-purpose yards, also against Bryant, and his four career punt returns for touchdowns are New England records.
