Northeast-10 Offensive Player of the Week
Jerom Freeman, Southern Connecticut (So., RB, Peekskill, N.Y.) -
Set a NCAA Division II single-game rushing record with 418 yards in
the win over Bryant. Had 428 all purpose yards along with five
touchdowns. Featured on ESPN's Sportscenter as the No. 5 top play
of Friday night.
Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week
Jon Kilborn, Stonehill (Jr., DB, North Dartmouth, Mass.) – In
the 24-14 win over Merrimack, recorded 14 tackles (10 solo), had
two pass breakups and picked off three passes. Two of those
interceptions came in the redzone.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Rob Parent, American International (Fr., QB, West Warwick, R.I.) -
Competed 12 passes for 211 yards in the 30-9 victory over Saint
Anselm.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Terrence Holley, American International (So., LB, Bronx, N.Y.) -
Recorded seven tackles (three solo, four assisted), including 1.5
tackles for loss, and had one forced fumble the defense held Saint
Anselm to 149 yards of total offense in the 30-9 victory.
David Canney, Assumption (So., WR, Templeton, Mass.) - Caught seven
passes for 131 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown catch, in the
win over C.W. Post. Also had two kickoff returns for 94 yards (52
long) to amass 225 all-purpose yards.
Taylor Humphrey, Assumption (Jr., QB, Lafayette, Calif.) -
Completed 21-of-35 passes (.600 completion pct) for 341 yards and
rushed four times for 32 yards (8.0 avg). Threw touchdown passes of
eight yards and 62 yards while amassing 373 yards of total
offense.
Scott Miller, Bentley (Sr., DL, Reading, Mass.) - Had 11 tackles,
1.5 tackles for losses, a half-sack and a forced fumble in a 17-10
win over Millersville.
Henry Morris, Bentley (Sr., QB, Acton, Mass.) - Threw for two
touchdowns, including the game-winner with 30 seconds left, in the
17-10 win at Millersville. Completed six of eight passes for 91
yards on the game-winning drive and finished 18-of-44 for 245
yards.
Charlie Granatell, Bryant (Sr., QB, Franklin Lakes, N.J.) -
Completed 24 of 41 passes for 275 yards and one touchdown against
Southern Connecticut.
Nick Georgetti, C.W. Post (Jr., QB, Holbrook, N.Y.) - Completed 28
of 43 pass attempts for 319 yards and one touchdown - his longest
pass being a 47-yard TD completion to Vaughn Davis.
Ernst Turnier, Pace (Sr., LB, Stratford, Conn.) - Totaled 15
tackles along with a pair of interceptions for 25 yards.
Casey Larson, Saint Anselm (Sr., DL, Pascoag, R.I.) - Finished with
12 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss, a half sack and a
fumble recovery against American International.
Jeffery Payne, Stonehill (Jr., RB, West Haven, Conn.) –
Returned a squib kick 74 yards for a touchdown in the 24-14 win
over Merrimack. Also scored on a 16 yard run. For the game,
compiled 176 all-purpose yards (127 return yards, 40 rushing yards
and nine receiving).
Weekly Notes:
AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL: The Yellow Jackets have
now won 10 consecutive home games and is 16-2 at John Homer Miller
Field since the start of the 2004 season. The Yellow Jackets scored
each of their four touchdowns on the ground against Saint Anselm,
marking the first time since the team's season-opening loss at
Bryant that they didn't have at least one TD through the air.
ASSUMPTION: Junior quarterback Taylor Humphrey
continued to rewrite the Hounds' record book. He has completed a
season record 162 passes in 303 attempts (second most to Chad
Carges' 305 in 2000) for 2,122 yards to become the first Greyhound
to pass for over 2,000 yards in a season. Humphrey also became the
first with over 2,000 yards of total offense. Sophomore wide
receiver David Canney has 846 receiving yards on the season, 9
yards shy of breaking the season record of 854 (John McKeon, 1976).
He broke the season record for receptions with 58, passing teammate
Jake Beers’s (Duxbury, Mass.) 51 receptions set last season.
Sophomore middle linebacker Dustin Zitzmann (Pinellas Park, Fla.)
joined the 200-tackle club, the first sophomore to reach that total
in Hounds' history. With his 4-9--13 tackle performance versus C.W.
Post, he now has 36-65-101 tackles. Zitzmann is now the first
player with over 100 tackles in each of his first two seasons.
BENTLEY: Sophomore K Tyler McNamara (Medway,
Mass.) kicked his 13th field goal of the season Saturday at
Millersville, tying the New England Division II record set by
Central Connecticut's Paul Flynn in 1987. It was also the 19th of
his career, breaking the all-time Bentley record.
BRYANT: The Bulldogs enter the week ranked No. 4
in the NCAA Northeast Region. The Bulldogs have clinched at least a
share of their second consecutive Northeast-10 Conference title and
will clinch the program's first ever title with a win Saturday
against Bentley.
MERRIMACK: Colin Temple moved into third-place
all-time in the Northeast-10 for passing yards, with 8,249 yards.
He needs one more touchdown pass to reach second-place all-time in
the NE-10 for passing touchdowns with 73. Temple also surpassed his
own school record with 22 passing touchdowns in a season.
PACE: Senior linebacker Joe Streany had recorded
136 total tackles this season and is six away from tying the
single-season school record of 142.
SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT: Jerom Freeman set a NCAA
Division II single-game rushing record with 418 yards in the Owls'
56-28 win over Bryant on Friday...Posted the fourth highest
single-game total in program history...Matched a school-record with
five touchdowns...Set new school single-game records for rushing
yards and all-purpose yards (428)...Featured on ESPN's Sportscenter
as the No. 5 top play of Friday night.
STONEHILL: With the win over Merrimack, the Skyhawks have
secured their first winning season since 1996 ... J.J. Niamkey
(Quincy, Mass.) caught a touchdown pass in his fourth straight
game, giving him seven scores for the season ... The school-record
of 13 was set by Mike Plichta in 2005 ... With the five
interceptions the Skyhawks had in the win over Merrimack, they are
now a +17 in turnover margin ... Cruz Parsons (Signal Hill, Calif.)
needs to pass for 53 more yards to move into the top in passing
yards in a season at Stonehill.
