Five Northeast-10 Athletes Named to All-Super Region 1 Football Team

The Northeast-10 had five student-athletes named to the 2008 Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-Super Region 1 Football team which was announced earlier this week. The NE-10 Offensive Lineman of the Year Ed Peters (Bloomfield, N.J.) from Southern Connecticut State University and the NE-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year Jean Simeon (Atlantic City, N.J.) from American International College were named to the All-Region First Team.

The players selected to the first team will now be placed on the All-America ballot.  The results of which will be announced on Dec. 9. 

American International's Travis Poole (Brooklyn, N.Y.),  Merrimack College's Andrew Jackson (New Britain, Conn.) and Southern Connecticut's Jerome Pinckney (Ellenwood, Ga.) were named to the All-Region Second Team.

Peters has helped the Owls’ top ranked offense to a conference best 33.8 points per game. Southern Connecticut finished second in the NE-10 in pass offense with 258.4 yards per game as well as rush offense with 189.9 yards per game. Peters was selected to the All-Northeast-10 First Team for the second straight season this year. He was selected to the All-Northeast Second Team in 2006.

Simeon has caused havoc to opposing quarterbacks this year as he finished fourth in the conference with eight sacks and 49 total tackles. Simeon is part of a Yellow Jackets’ defense that held opponents to 17.1 points per game and that held opposing offenses to only 63.6 yards on the ground. Simeon was also named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team this season for the first time in his collegiate career.

Poole, the Northeast-10 Most Valuable Player, accumulated 1,252 all-purpose yards this season, fifth best in the Northeast-10. Poole currently sits sixth among the Division II leaders in yards per game (109.91) and 19th in scoring. Poole finished the year with 66 receptions, 1209 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns.  He was also named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team for the first time in his collegiate career.

Pinckney was voted this year's NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year.  He led the Owls in tackles with 67, 8.5 in which were for a loss. He has also collected 1.5 sacks and forced and recovered two fumbles. Pinckney was part of a defensive unit that allowed only 20.5 points per game and that held opponents to only 169.4 yards passing per game and 112.1 yards per game on the ground. Pickney also earned his first-ever selection to the All-Northeast-10 First Team this season.

Jackson was an integral part of the Warrior defense and special teams unit this year. He amassed over 710 yards on kick returns (429) and punt returns (285) combined treurned three kicks for touchdowns, two off punts and one off a kick return.  On defense, Jackson recorded five interceptions to finish tied for fourth in the conference as well as recording 58 total tackles.  A four-time All-Northeast-10 selection, Jackson also earned First Team All NE-10 honors this year.

With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
