American International: 'Wilkins Named DII/III Coach of the Year by The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston'

Boston, Mass. – American International College head football
coach Art Wilkins has been named the Division II/III Coach of the
Year by The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. He will be honored by
club at its annual Bob Whelan College Football Awards Night on
Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Marriott Hotel in Burlington,
Massachusetts.
Wilkins, who was named the Northeast-10 Co-Coach of the Year in
2008, led the Yellow Jackets to an overall record of 9-2 and the
program’s first-ever NCAA playoff appearance in 2008.
AIC’s nine wins tied the 2000 squad for the second-most wins
in a single season. The Yellow Jackets also captured the
Northeast-10 title with a perfect conference record of 7-0, marking
the programs third conference championship since 1999.
Wilkins has amassed an overall record of 95-60 in his 15 years at
AIC and had posted an impressive 79-28 record in conference games.
Since his arrival, the Yellow Jackets have posted winning seasons
12 times. Under his tutelage, AIC players have earned major awards
from the EFC/NE-10 15 times and a total of 52 players have earned
all-conference recognition.
Wilkins led the Yellow Jackets to four-straight EFC Championship
appearances (1997-2000) after capturing Central/Bay State Division
titles each year, including an 8-0 conference clip in 1997. In
addition to posting the program’s first championship in 1999,
the Yellow Jackets registered a school-record 10 wins. AIC captured
the conference title again in 2000.
