Nov 3, 2004

WALTHAM, Mass. --- For the second straight year, Bentley College senior quarterback Marc Eddy (Southboro/ Algonquin Reg. HS) has been named a candidate for the 2004 Harlon Hill Trophy, which is presented to the NCAA Division II College Football Player of the Year.

The list of candidates, which includes six repeat candidates, was pared down from a total of 40 nominations and announced today by Dee Corum, voting coordinator for the National Harlon Hill Award Committee.

The 24 initial candidates will be placed on regional ballots and the top two from each of the four NCAA regions will advance to the national ballot when regional voting concludes on Nov. 15. The winner of the 2004 award will be announced on Dec. 10 in Florence, Ala. on the eve of the 2004 NCAA Division II national championship game.

In addition to Eddy, the candidates from the Northeast Region are quarterback Jimmy Terwilliger of East Stroudsburg, senior fullback John Kuhn of Shippensburg, senior running back Chris Moore of Charleston, and junior running backs Antoine Bagwell of California (Pa.) and Andre Burke of Edinboro.

The Hill Trophy is sponsored by Coca-Cola, the City of Florence, Ala. and Trustmark Construction.

Eddy, a 6'3?, 230-pound left-hander, is number one in Division II history in career TD passes with 118, breaking the record of 116 set by former Harlon Hill winner Chris Hatcher (1991-94).

Owner of an impressive 36-6 record as Bentley's starting QB (only four D-2 players ever have had a higher winning percentage), Eddy has thrown for 2,639 yards and 28 touchdowns this season with a .561 completion percentage. The seventh QB in Division II history to reach the 10,000 plateau in career passing yards, he is second nationally in touchdown passes, 10th in total offense and 23rd in passing efficiency.

This season, Eddy has thrown at least three TD passes in seven of nine games for the 8-1 Falcons, who are ranked 23rd in Division II and fourth in the Northeast Region. His performances have included 429 yards and two touchdowns against 7-2 C.W. Post, 414 yards and six TDs in little more than a half at Saint Anselm, 384 yards and three scores in three quarters against Bryant, 351 yards and three TDs against Pace and 341 yards and three TDs in the opener against 7-2 Southern Connecticut.

In addition to the record for most career TD passes, Eddy also owns the NCAA Division II records for most consecutive games with a scoring pass (27) and most games with at least three TD passes (25, five more than the previous standard).

Terwilliger, the only other QB candidate from the Northeast Region, has thrown for 2,825 yards and 25 touchdowns with a .597 completion percentage for the 8-1 Warriors. He's third in Division II in passing efficiency (173.6) and fourth in total offense (343.4).
