Top Two Seeds Advance to NE-10 Field Hockey Championship Final

The top two seeds in the 2008 Northeast-10 Field Hockey Championship are moving on to the championship final tomorrow at 1 p.m. Top seed UMass Lowell defeated #4 Stonehill 3-2 in the early semifinal contest, while #2 Bentley shutout #3 Southern Connecticut, 1-0 at Cushing Field Saturday afternoon.

UMass Lowell's Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the way for the Riverhawks as she scored two goals and added an assist.

Macy contributed on all three goals, scoring the first two of the game to give the River Hawks a 2-0 lead at the half. Macy scored her first of the afternoon in the fifth minute of play, an unassisted goal.

Macy made it 2-0 with her second of the day and 24th of the year in the 20th minute. Missy Seeley (East Hampstead, N.H.) picked up the assist.

Kerri Sullivan (Goffstown, N.H.) got the Skyhawks on the board in the 43rd minute with her seventh tally of the season. Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, MA) assisted on the goal.

Lindsey Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine) tied the game in the 59th minute, her seventh of the year. Ashley March (Schwenksville, Pa.) had the assist.

Less than three minutes after Pinkham tied the game, junior forward Jaci Moulton (Baldwinville, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal for the River Hawks in the 61st minute. Macy picked up the assist.

Amy Carbon (Bellingham, Mass.) made five saves to pick up her 13th win of the season for UML. Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass.) took the loss for Stonehill. Osier allowed three goals and made eight saves.

In the second semifinal contest #2 Bentley needed just one goal as the Falcons defeated #3 Southern Connecticut 1-0.  Junior forward Nicole Murphy (Dedham, Mass.) scored the games only goal five minutes into the first half off an assist from junior Courtney Bartlett (Brunswick, Maine).

The win was the Falcons 15th straight victory dating back to mid-September.  Bentley outshot Southern Connecticut 12-4 even though the Owls held the advantage over penatly corners, 10-8. 

Bentley's junior goalkeeper Alyssa Sliney (Brewster, Mass.) made two saves in goal for her seventh shutout of the season, while Southern Connecticut's sophomore goalie Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn.) pushed away six shots.

Bentley will face UMass Lowell in the Northeast-10 Championship Final tomorrow at 1 p.m. at UMass Lowell's Cushing Field.
