Bentley's McQueen Advances to Round of 32 in Massachusetts State Amateur Golf Championship

Marblehead, Mass. – Bentley University
rising senior Dan McQueen, the Falcons'
top performer during the spring portion of the schedule, qualified
for match play in the 104th Massachusetts State Amateur golf
tournament with a strong performance in stroke play Monday and
Tuesday at the Tedesco Country Club.
McQueen tied for 10th, in field of 144, with a 36-hole total of
143. He turned in an even-par 70 on Monday and came back with a 73
Tuesday morning. That left him three strokes back of a quartet of
golfers who fired a 140: Daniel Falcucci of Cyprian Keyes Golf
Club, Mike Calef of the Brockton Country Club, Jack Whalen of
Myopia Hunt and Colin Brennan, out of Indian Ridge CC.
McQueen and the rest of the top 32 will square off in match play,
beginning Wednesday morning.
The 16 survivors from that group will be back of the course in the
afternoon looking for a spot in the Elite Eight. The quarterfinals
and semifinals will be Thursday, and the two remaining golfers will
play 36 on Friday for the championship.
In the Round of 32, McQueen is paired with John Learson of Sandy
Burr Country Club, who tied for 22nd with a 76-70-146.
McQueen's success both days came on the course's front nine. On
Monday, he eagled the par-five, 505-yard ninth hold and had birdies
on both the fourth and sixth holes, both par fours. Tuesday, after
starting on the tenth hole and standing at five-over with three
holes remaining, he turned in back-to-back birds on the seventh and
eighth, both par threes.
McQueen, a Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District 1
selection and a member of the Academic All-Northeast-10 team,
averaged 76.1 strokes during the spring and was Bentley's top
golfer in three of six tournaments. Overall, in his first full
season with the Falcons, he finished with a 77.0 stroke
average.
The runner-up in the 2008 Mass. Junior Amateur, McQueen began his
college career at Fairfield before transferring to Bentley.
