Saint Michael's: Men's Hockey Great Ryan Mero '09 Inks Deal With Mississippi Surge Of Southern Professional Hockey League

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Former Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey
standout Ryan Mero '09 (Peekskill, N.Y./Avon Old Farms) became the
second alum in the last six weeks to sign a professional contract,
as the forward has agreed to play for the Mississippi Surge of the
Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), it was announced on
Tuesday.
Mero's first regular-season game with the Surge is Thursday,
October 22 at the Louisiana IceGators.
Mero completed a standout four-year career for Saint Michael's in
March, helping lead the Purple Knights to back-to-back Northeast-10
Conference Tournament titles. A top playmaker, Mero finished his
career with 51 goals, 68 assists and 119 points (all totals ninth
in program history) in just 84 games played.
The 2008 NE-10 Player of the Year and a two-time NE-10
All-Conference First Team selection, Mero led the Purple Knights in
scoring each of the last two seasons. He joins classmate Chris
Healey (Salem, N.H./New Hampshire Junior Monarchs) as members of
the Class of 2009 to sign professional contracts, as Healey inked a
deal with the Dayton (Ohio) Gems in July.
