South Easton, Mass. –
Assumption College sophomore forward Pat O’Kane (Hollis, N.H.) and Saint Anselm junior forward Coleman Noonan (Norfolk, Mass.) were named the 2009-2010 Northeast-10 Co-Ice Hockey Players of the Year as voted by the conference’s head coaches.

O’Kane is the first player from Assumption to receive Player of the Year honors as he helped lead the Greyhounds to a second place finish in the Northeast-10 standings. Assumption earned an automatic bye in the NE-10 Championship and will be hosting a semifinal game Wednesday night versus #3 Saint Michael’s College. O’Kane ranks second in the conference in scoring with 38 points, but leads the NE-10 with 25 goals. He has also registered 13 assists and of his 25 goals, 12 have been off the power-play. In addition, O’Kane was named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team for the first time in his career.

Noonan has helped lead Saint Anselm to its seventh straight Northeast-10 Regular Season title as the Hawks secured the top seed and home ice advantage throughout the championship after finishing 4-0-1 in NE-10 play. Saint Anselm will host a semifinal game Wednesday night against #5 Stonehill College. Noonan currently leads the conference in scoring, two points ahead of O’Kane, with 40 points. He has tallied 19 goals to go along with a NE-10 best 21 assists. Noonan has also recorded eight power play goals for the Hawks. In addition, he earned All-Northeast-10 First Team honors after receiving second team accolades last year.

The post-season honors continued for Saint Anselm as Noonan’s teammate junior goaltender Alex Wyse (Amherst, N.Y.) was named the 2009-2010 Northeast-10 Goaltender of the Year. Wyse leads the conference with a 3.00 goals against average and is second with a .904 save percentage. He has recorded 500 saves, while facing 553 shots. Noonan is 9-7-1 overall and has recorded two shutouts. In addition, he was named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team for the first time in his career.

Saint Michael’s College junior defender Matt Rigtrup (Upper Mountclair, N.J) has earned back-to-back Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors. He is the first player in the conference’s history to win the award two straight seasons. Rigtrup is the Northeast-10’s top scoring defender as he has recorded a conference best 21 assists to go along with six goals for 27 points. A two-time All-Northeast-10 selection, Rigtrup was named to the First Team for the second straight season.

Franklin Pierce University forward Roscoe Sweeney (Falmouth, Mass.) was selected the 2009-2010 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year. In his first year of collegiate action, Sweeney has helped lead the Ravens to a program record seven victories this year. He is the conference’s leading scoring freshman with 12 goals, 19 assists and 31 points. Overall, he ranks fifth in scoring among the NE-10 leaders. In addition, Sweeney was named to the All-Northeast-10 Second Team, as well as the All-Rookie team.

Assumption’s head coach Lance Brady was voted the 2009-2010 Northeast-10 Coach of the Year by his peers. In just his second season at the helm at Assumption, Brady turned around a Greyhound team that finished 6-16-4 a year ago to a second place finish this year with a 14-10-1 overall record and 8-2-1 in conference play. Assumption earned the second seed in this year’s championship and earned a first round bye. The Greyhounds host #3 Saint Michael’s Wednesday night in the semifinal round.

With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
