LOWELL, MA ? UMass Lowell senior Stacey Moragne (Evanston, IL) was named to the Daktronics Division II Men's Basketball All-America Second Team Tuesday afternoon, voted upon by the country's sports information directors.

The award is the latest of several this season for Moragne, who was named the Northeast-10 Conference Co-Player of the Year (with John Williams of Bryant University) and the Daktronics Northeast Region Co-Player of the Year (with Philadelphia University forward Tayron Thomas) earlier this month.

"Stacey has been one of the premier players in the league since his sophomore year," said UML head coach Ken Barer. "He is a very special player who is incredibly efficient. Obviously, he is very deserving of these honors. I'm very happy for him because I know how hard he has worked and I know the amount of time he has put in."

Moragne makes his second appearance on the Daktronics All-America teams in as many years. Last year, he was named to the first team.

UML (21-10) enjoyed another stellar season as it reached the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in six years and advanced to the Northeast Regional championship game for the third time in four years. UML suffered an 89-80 loss at Stonehill in the NCAA Tournament Northeast Region title game.

During the NE-10 regular season, UML finished in a tie for third place with a 15-7 clip and, despite a quarterfinal exit from the NE-10 Tournament, posted victories over higher seeds Bryant (77-67) and Saint Anselm (74-70) in the first two rounds of the NCAAs.

Moragne was named to the NCAA Northeast Regional All-Tournament Team for the second time in his career and will play in the inaugural Division II All-Star Game Friday at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (7:00).

Moragne enjoyed a storied career at UML and completed his tenure among the program's top 10 leaders in many categories. He scored the 2,000th point of his career in the NCAA Tournament win over Saint Anselm and capped his career third on UML's career scoring list with 2,041 points.

Moragne also ranks second all-time in field goals made (773) and field goal percentage (.558); third in rebounds (839) and games played (126); fourth in 3-point field goal accuracy (.428) and fifth in free throws made (358).

Last year, Moragne was named to the 2005 NABC Division II All-America Team and received honors such as NABC Northeast Region Player of the Year and ECAC Division II Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-4, 216-pound forward compiled averages of 21.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this season while shooting .549 from the field and .458 from 3-point range.

Moragne has been named the NE-10 Player of the Week four times this season and 11 times in his career. He posted season-highs of 39 points ? tying for the third-highest total in UML history ? in a key 87-79 win at Queens College; and 12 rebounds on two occasions.

Moragne is the son of Marilyn Eason of Chicago and Stacey Moragne, Sr., of Evanston, IL.
