Bentley Claims Top Seed in Northeast-10 Championship

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 regular season champion, the Falcons of Bentley College are the top seed for the 2006-07 Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Basketball Championship, presented by Anaconda Sports.

Bentley has claimed its third straight Northeast-10 regular season title and sixth overall, while finishing the season a perfect 26-0 with a Northeast-10 record of 22 conference victories.

Pace University (19-11, 15-7 NE-10) received the second seed after winning the tie break with the College of Saint Rose (19-8, 15-7 NE-10) who claims the third seed. Bryant University (18-9, 14-8 NE-10) received the number four seed. All four teams earn first-round byes. First round action begins Saturday Feb. 24 with four games. The winners move on to the quarterfinal round on Monday Feb. 26.

First round games include #12 Merrimack College (8-19, 7-15 NE-10) at #5 American International College (15-12, 13-9 NE-10), #11 Assumption College (11-16, 9-13 NE-10) at #6 Saint Michael’s College (15-12, 12-10 NE-10), #10 Le Moyne College (13-14, 10-12 NE-10) at #7 Stonehill College (16-11, 11-11 NE-10), and #9 Saint Anselm College (14-13, 10-12 NE-10) at #8 Franklin Pierce College (13-13, 11-11 NE-10). All games tip-off at 2 p.m. with the exception of the Assumption/Saint Michael’s match-up that will begin at 1 p.m.

Quarterfinal games on Feb. 26 tip-off at 7 p.m. Bentley will host the winner of Saint Anselm/Franklin Pierce, Pace will host the winner of the Le Moyne/Stonehill, Saint Rose will host the winner of Assumption/Saint Michael’s and Bryant will host the winner of Merrimack/American International.

The seminfinal round will take place at higher seeds Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m. The championship is slated for Saturday, March 3 at 1 p.m.

Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any Division II conference.
