Saint Rose's Dagostino Named Northeast-10 Player of the Year

South Easton, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose’s
junior guard Steve Dagostino (Guilderland, N.Y.) has been named the
2006-07 Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of
the Year as voted by the conference’s 15 coaches.
Dagostino has helped lead the Golden Knights to a 20-8 overall
record and a trip to the Northeast-10 Conference semifinals. He
currently leads Saint Rose in scoring with 17 points per game,
which ranks him fourth in the conference, as well as being ranked
in the top five in assists (5.0 apg) steals (2.19 spg), and free
throw percentage (.859). Dagostino was also named Northeast-10
First-Team All-Conference.
Merrimack College’s freshman guard Darren Duncan (Briarwood,
N.Y.) and senior guard Kenny Jones (Norwich, Conn.) were named
Northeast-10 Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year
respectively. The duo has combined for over 30 points per game
(30.8) and helped lead the Warriors to a trip to the Northeast-10
Tournament. Duncan leads the Northeast-10 in assists with 6.54 and
is among the conference leaders in scoring (14 ppg) and steals
(2.04). Jones ranks among the conference leaders in scoring (16.8
ppg), free throw percentage (.853) and in defensive rebounds
(4.25). Duncan was also named to the All-Rookie team, while Jones
earned Northeast-10 Second-Team honors.
Also receiving a major award is Bentley’s head coach Jay
Lawson, who becomes the first men’s basketball head coach to
win Coach of the Year honors four times (2006-07, 2004-05, 2003-04,
1992-93). Lawson has guided the Falcons to the first undefeated
regular season in school, Northeast-10 and New England Division II
history. Bentley is currently 27-0 overall.
Joining Dagostino on the Northeast-10 First-Team is American
International College’s Magen McNeil, Bryant
University’s Chris Burns, Pace University’s Ryan
Williams, and Saint Michael’s College’s Brendan
Mullins.
Bentley teammates Nate Fritsch and Jeff Holmes were named
Northeast-10 Second-Team, along with Franklin Pierce
College’s Darryl Minnifield, Stonehill College’s Nick
Smith, and Jones.
Third-Team selections include Bentley’s Yusuf Abdul-Ali,
Bryant’s Jon Ezeokoli, Le Moyne College’s Matt Cooper,
Pace’s Desmond Quincy-Jones, and Saint Rose’s Clayton
Longmire.
Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team includes Bentley’s Jason
Westrol, Le Moyne’s Laurence Ekperigin, Saint Anselm‘s
Giovanni Carenza, Stonehill’s AJ Rudowitz, and Duncan.
