Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Sam Carey, Southern New Hampshire (Sr., C, Manchester, N.H.) -
Averaged 21.7 points and eight rebounds per game while shooting
70.6 percent (24-34) during a 2-1 stretch. Scored 29 points and
grabbed nine rebounds in a loss to Dominican. Was 7-for-9 from the
floor and totaled 20 points and seven rebounds in a victory over
Mercy.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Darin Mency, Merrimack (Fr., G, Hagerstown, Md.) - Averaged 17
points and 6.5 rebounds in two victories at the Pace University
Tournament this past weekend. Scored 22 points, recorded seven
rebounds and dished out three assists while shooting 8-of-11 from
the field in the win over Caldwell. In the victory over Bloomfield,
scored 12 points and brought in six rebounds.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Corey Diethorn, Assumption (Sr., C, Pittsburgh, Pa.) - In a 4-0
week, averaged 15 points (13-16 FT), 9.3 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks.
Had 20 points (9-16 FG), nine rebounds, and three blocks in a
victory over C.W. Post. Scored 16 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and
had four blocks in a win over Post in the Bryant Holiday
Tournament.
Greg Twomey, Assumption (Sr., F, Groton, Mass.) - Averaged 17.3
points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists while shooting 57.5 percent
(23-40 FG) from the floor during a 4-0 week. Had 18 points (7-10
FG), 12 rebounds, and six assists in a win over C.W. Post. Scored
17 points (6-10 FG) with 10 rebounds, three assists, and four
steals in a win at Queens. Had 15 points (4-6 FG, 6-7 FT) and
recorded four assists in a victory over Philadelphia. Scored 19
points (6-14 FG, 7-9 FT) and had four assists in a win over Post in
the Bryant Holiday Tournament.
Yusuf Abdul-Ali, Bentley (Sr., G, Springfield, Mass.) - Shot 61
percent (14-23) and averaged 16.5 points and three assists in
non-conference wins over Goldey-Beacom and New York Tech. Had 16
points and four assists against Goldey-Beacon, and 17 points on
7-of-10 shooting against NYIT.
Jon Ezeokoli, Bryant (Sr., G, South Orange, N.J.) - Averaged 18.3
points and six rebounds per game in three wins. Had 18 points in a
51-50 win at Adelphi. Had 20 points and four assists in a win over
Post at the Bryant Holiday Tournament and followed with 17 points,
eight rebounds, and five assists in a win over Philadelphia.
Timothy Munch, Franklin Pierce (Jr., G, Blauvelt, N.Y.) - Earned
Player of the Game honors on back-to-back nights to lead the Ravens
to a pair of wins at the ECAC/Commerce Bank Classic Holiday
Classic. Averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and two steals in the
two wins. Shot a combined 52-percent (13-for-25) from the field,
including 6-for-13 (46.2%) from three-point range, while converting
11-of-14 (78.6%) of his free-throw attempts over the two games.
Totaled 21 points, five rebounds and two steals in overtime win
over Dominican, scoring eight points in overtime alone. Collected
22 points, four rebounds and two steals in a win over Caldwell.
Laurence Ekperigin, Le Moyne (So., F, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) -
Averaged 21 points and nine rebounds in the Dolphins last three
games. Scored 28 points against Mercy.
Darren Duncan, Merrimack (So., G, Briarwood, N.Y.) - Averaged 17
points in two wins at the Pace University Classic. Also picked up
16 assists in two games, while grabbing five boards in two
games.
Desmond Quincy-Jones, Pace (Sr., F, Rye, N.Y.) - Averaged 14
points and 9.5 rebounds as the team posted a 1-1 record. Recorded
eight points and 10 rebounds against Bloomfield. Tallied 20 points
and nine boards in a win over Caldwell.
Ryan Williams, Pace (Sr., G, Centreville, Va.) - Averaged 17
points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as the team went 1-1. Totaled
14 points, four rebounds and two assists against Bloomfield.
Tallied 20 points, three boards, three assists and three steals in
a overtime win over Caldwell.
Ryan Rodrigues, Saint Michael's (So., G, Acushnet, Mass.) - Scored
35 points off the bench in 43 minutes over two games, including 23
against Salem International on 7-of-13 shooting from beyond the
arc. Against Saint Rose, netted 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Steve Dagostino, Saint Rose (Sr., G, Schenectady, N.Y.) - Averaged
15 points, 7.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds during a 3-1 stretch. Shot
50.0 percent (19-for-38) from the floor and 88.2 percent (15-of-17)
from the foul line. Finished with 17 points and seven assists
without a turnover in an 86-68 victory over Saint Michael's. Had 14
assists to go with nine points and six boards in a 75-73 win versus
Holy Family. Had 23 points on the strength of 4-for-8 shooting from
beyond the arc in a 74-61 setback at C.W. Post.
Shanty Robinson, Saint Rose (Sr., F, Mount Vernon, N.Y.) -
Averaged 14.8 points and nine rebounds during a 3-1 stretch for
Saint Rose. Shot 50.0 percent (23-for-46) from the floor in the
process. Registered back-to-back 14 point, nine rebound
performances in victories over Saint Michael's and Holy Family. Had
19 points, seven boards and two assists in a 70-61 win over Nyack
and 12 points and 11 rebounds in a 74-61 loss at C.W. Post.
Troy Bowen, Southern New Hampshire (Jr., G, Nashua, N.H.) -
Averaged 17 points per game and shot 55.2 percent (21-38) from the
floor during a 2-1 stretch. Totaled 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting
in a win at Caldwell.
Ktrice McNeill, Southern Connecticut (Sr., F, Bronx, N.Y.) -
Averaged 16.3 points over three games while shooting 22-for-34
(64.7%) from the floor. Scored 20 points in a win over Dominican
and 18 points in a victory over Dowling.
Nick Smith, Stonehill (Jr., F, Colonia, N.J.) - Averaged 22 points
and four rebounds in two victories. In a win over Mercy, drained
six three pointers and had 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting in just
24 minutes. In a win over Dominican, netted 20 points in just 23
minutes. For the week, shot 16-for-24 from the field, including
9-for-14 from behind the arc.
Weekly Notes:
ASSUMPTION: With Saturday's 64-62 win over Post,
Assumption recorded its 1,000th win in school history. They are a
1,000-816 since the program's first-recorded data in 1922-23. They
became just the 62nd team in NCAA Division II history and join
conference rival Saint Michael's as the only New England Division
II teams with 1,000 wins. Sixteen teams have earned 1,000 wins in
New England basketball history including nine Division I teams and
five Division III teams. The Greyhounds are the eighth in
Massachusetts history.
BENTLEY: Has maintained the number one ranking in
Division II since Nov. 27, posted a record of 31-1 in calendar year
2007. The Falcons entered the new year with streaks of 38 straight
regular season wins, 30 consecutive regular season NE-10 victories,
41 straight wins against Northeast Region teams, and 24 wins in a
row at home. Wednesday’s game at Bloomfield will be the
Falcons' first in the state of New Jersey since 1977. Bentley has
led from the opening basket in four games this year, including the
last two (Goldey-Beacom, New York Tech).
PACE: Desmond Quincy-Jones became the 29th player in
school history to score 1,000 career points in a win over Caldwell.
Quincy-Jones currently has scored 1,018 points.
SAINT ROSE: Has opened up 6-1 in conference action for
the third time in its eight-year NE-10 tenure. Senior guard Steve
Dagostino moved past head coach Brian Beaury on the College's
all-time list with four assists on Sunday, giving him 447 for his
career.
