Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Jason Westrol, Bentley (So., G, Brielle, N.J.) - Helped Bentley
extend its regular season winning streak to 45 games by averaging
21 points, 9.5 rebounds and two assists in a pair of victories.
Shot 69 percent overall, hitting 9-of-13 in each game, and buried
four of eight three-pointers. Had 23 points and 12 rebounds in a
71-66 win over Pace. Followed that up with 19 points and seven
rebounds in a 76-60 win at Southern New Hampshire.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Darin Mency, Merrimack (Fr., F, Hagerstown, Md.) - Averaged 15.7
points and 4.3 rebounds in a 3-0 week. Tallied 22 points in a 89-81
win over Le Moyne.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Aikeem Vanderhorst, American International (So., F, Bay Shore,
N.Y.) - Averaged 16.5 points and four rebounds in a 1-1 week.
Scored 19 points with six rebounds in a win over Saint Michael's
and netted 14 points against UMass Lowell.
Courtland Bluford, Assumption (So., G, Ft. Washington, Md.) -
Averaged 15 points and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week. Had 14 points and
four assists in a victory over Franklin Pierce. Scored 16 points
(5-10 FG, 2-3 3FG, 4-4 FT) in a win over Saint Anselm.
Patrick Shea, Assumption (Jr., G, Salem, Mass.) - Averaged 12.5
points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists in a 2-0 week. Scored 18 points
(5-7 FG, 2-4 3FG, 6-7 FT) with six rebounds and three assists in a
victory over Franklin Pierce. Had seven points, 11 rebounds, and
six assists in a win over Saint Anselm.
Cecil Gresham , Bryant (So., F, Bloomfield, Conn.) - In Bryant's
only action this past week, scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting
from the floor and made 3-of-6 three-point attempts in the 56-50
win at UMass Lowell.
Laurence Ekperigin, Le Moyne (So., F, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) -
Averaged 22 points and 11.5 rebounds per game this past week.
Recorded double-doubles in games against Saint Rose and Merrimack.
Connected on 15-of-24 shots (.625).
Jason Holmes, Le Moyne (Sr., G, Mamaroneck, N.Y.) - Averaged 19.5
points and three steals per game this past week. Registered 23
points against Saint Rose and followed that up with a 16 point
performance against Merrimack.
Mike Gore, UMass Lowell (Sr., F, Wilmington, Mass.) - Posted
averages of 16.5 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting .577 from
the field. Registered 20 points and seven rebounds while converting
9-of-15 field goals in a 54-47 win at American International.
Scored 13 points on 6 of 11 field goal shooting in the 56-50 loss
to Bryant.
Darren Duncan, Merrimack (So., G, Briarwood, N.Y.) - Averaged 20.7
points per game in a 3-0 week. Shot 8-for-16 from behind the arc
and shot 42- percent from the field. Averaged 4.3 boards and 4.3
assists.
Desmond Quincy-Jones, Pace (Sr., F, Rye, N.Y.) - Averaged a double
double with 19 points and 10 boards per contest, while recording
2.5 steals in a 1-1 week. Shot 16-for-28 (57.1%) from the field.
Against Bentley, recorded a double double with 12 points and 15
rebounds, while adding two steals. In a win over Stonehill, shot
11-for-19 from the field, scoring a26 points, while chipping in
five rebounds and three steals.
Gibraltar White, Pace (Sr., G, Gautier, Miss.) - Averaged 15.5
points, six rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 1-1 week. Tallied 14
points, five boards and two assists against Bentley. Totaled 17
points, seven rebounds and three assists in a win over
Stonehill.
Ryan Williams, Pace (Sr., G, Centreville, Va.) - Averaged 23 points
and five rebounds in a 1-1 week. Shot 17-for-30 (56.7%) from the
field and 7-for-12 (58.3%) from beyond the arc for the week. Scored
a game-high 25 points against Bentley, while chipping four rebounds
and a pair of blocks. In a win over Stonehill, tallied 21 points,
six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Shot 9-for-13 from the
field in the game.
Evan Lane, Saint Rose (Jr., F, Sharon Springs, N.Y.) - Averaged 16
points and seven rebounds in a 2-0 week. Shot 77.8 percent
(14-for-18) from the floor. Recorded a double-double behind 22
points on 10-for-11 shooting in a 76-72 victory at Le Moyne. Also
hauled in 12 boards.
Shanty Robinson, Saint Rose (Sr., F, Mount Vernon, N.Y.) - Averaged
19 points, four assists and 3.5 rebounds during a 2-0 week. Shot
77.3 percent (17-for-22) from the floor and went 4-for-6 from the
line in the process. Finished with 21 points via a 10-for-12 effort
from the field and also added six assists in a 76-72 victory at Le
Moyne. Also recorded 17 points in an 88-68 triumph over visiting
Franklin Pierce.
Vince Rosario, Stonehill (Fr., G, Perth Amboy, N.J.) –
Averaged 13.5 points and three rebounds a game, while shooting 52
percent from the field in a 1-1 week. For the week, made 9-of-16
three-point attempts, including a 7-for-12 performance from behind
the arc in the loss at Pace.
Nick Smith, Stonehill (Jr., F, Colonia, N.J.) - Averaged 16 points
and seven rebounds in a 1-1 week. Had 16 points in each contest and
added 10 boards in the loss to Pace to record a double-double.
Weekly Notes:
BENTLEY: Bentley remained number one in last
week's NABC Division II coaches rankings, topping the poll for the
seventh straight time. Over the last decade, only last year's
Winona State team has spent more consecutive weeks at number one.
Bentley's regular season winning streak is currently 45, and the
Falcons have won their last 48 games against Northeast Region
opposition.
MERRIMACK: Merrimack’s win over Saint Anselm
on Tuesday was the 400th in the 28-year career of head coach Bert
Hammel. Hammel is the 24th coach in Division II to reach the 400
win milestone and the fourth in the Northeast-10.
SAINT ROSE: With 17 points against Franklin Pierce
on Saturday, senior guard Steve Dagostino became the only player in
school annals listed among the College's top-10 in scoring (1,398),
assists (482) and steals (205).
STONEHILL: The school-record of nine three-pointers in a
game has stood for 10 years. Vince Rosario (Perth Amboy, N.J.) has
come close twice to tying it. He made six in a win at Merrimack and
drained seven in a loss to Pace. With 57 three-pointers made each,
Roasrio and Nick Smith are 10 makes away from entering the school's
all-time top-10 for a single season. Smith's total of 67 a season
ago, already ranks ninth.
