Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Sam Carey, Southern New Hampshire (Sr., C, Manchester, N.H.) -
Averaged 30.5 points and nine rebounds per game while shooting .639
(23-36) from the floor in two games last week. Registered 32 points
and grabbed eight rebounds in a setback to Le Moyne, then recorded
a double-double (29 pts, 10 reb) at Assumption.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Darin Mency, Merrimack (Fr., F, Hagerstown, Md.) - Notched a
double-double, scoring 29 points while grabbing 10 rebounds in the
77-62 victory over Stonehill. Shot 11-for-18 from the field, along
with a 4-of-8 performance from behind the arc. Connected on all
three free throw attempts and dished out three assists.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Aikeem Vanderhorst, American International (So., F, Bay Shore,
N.Y.) - Averaged 16.5 and eight rebounds this past week. Netted 22
points with six rebounds at UMass Lowell and registered a
double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
Mike Baldarelli, Assumption (Fr., F, Sutton, Mass.) - Coming off
the bench, averaged 20 points and two steals while shooting 52.4
percent (11-21 FG) from the floor in a 1-1 week. Also shot 58.3
percent (7-12 3FG) from the three-point line. Had 12 points (2-4
3FG), three rebounds, and two steals at Bentley. Scored 28 points
on 9-of-13 shooting, including hitting 5-of-8 three pointers, and
had two steals in a home win over Southern New Hampshire.
Yusuf Abdul-Ali, Bentley (Sr., G, Springfield, Mass.) - In a 2-0
week, averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, five assists and two
steals while shooting 54.5 percent overall and from three. Was also
perfect on five free throw attempts. Had 19 points, seven assists,
six rebounds and four steals against Assumption, and 16 points,
four assists and four rebounds at Saint Michael's.
Jason Westrol, Bentley (So., G, Brielle, N.J.) - Averaged 17
points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week. Shot 55 percent
overall, made five of nine three-pointers and seven of nine free
throws. Had 23 points (7-9 FG, 4-5 3FG, 5-6 FT) in a win over
Assumption. Had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists against
Saint Michael's.
Laurence Ekperigin, Le Moyne (So., F, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) - In a
1-1 week, led Le Moyne with 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per
game.
Chris Winters, Merrimack (Jr., F, East Lyme, Conn.) - Notched a
double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds, also had three blocks
in a 77-62 victory over Stonehill.
Laurence McGhee, Pace (So., G, Linden, N.J.) - Averaged 15.5 points
and 8.5 assists on 9-for-14 shooting from the field in a 2-0 week.
Totaled 14 points and seven assists in a win over American
International. Recorded a double double with 17 points and 10
assists in a win over Le Moyne.
Desmond Quincy-Jones, Pace (Sr., F, Rye, N.Y.) - Averaged a double
double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 15-for-25
from the field in a 2-0 week. Shot 8-for-13 from the field and
tallied 18 points and 12 boards in a win over American
International. Totaled 14 points and 10 caroms on 7-for-12 shooting
in a win over Le Moyne.
Ryan Williams, Pace (Sr., G, Centreville, Va.) - Averaged 16.5
points and 5.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Totaled 20 points and three
boards in a win over American International. Tallied 13 points and
eight rebounds in a win over Le Moyne.
Branimir Zeko, Saint Anselm (So., F, Mississauga, Ontario) - In the
team's lone game of the week, finished with an 18-point, 13-rebound
double-double, including an 8-for-10 showing at the free throw
line, as the Hawks defeated Franklin Pierce, 76-72.
James Sorrentine, Saint Michael's (Sr., G, Pawtucket, R.I.) -
Averaged 19.5 points per game on the week, including 23 points
against Bentley and went 5-of-5 from the line. On the week, went
10-of-24 from beyond the arc to lead Saint Michael's in
scoring.
Steve Dagostino, Saint Rose (Sr., G, Schenectady, N.Y.) - Scored 25
points in an 87-72 victory over visiting Southern Connecticut. Was
4-of-8 from beyond the arc and also added nine assists and four
steals.
Shanty Robinson, Saint Rose (Sr., F, Mount Vernon, N.Y.) -
Registered a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds in an
87-72 victory over Southern Connecticut. Hit 5-of-10 shots from the
floor and went 5-for-6 from the stripe for the game.
Preston Bell, Southern Connecticut (Jr., F, Brooklyn, N.Y.) -
Averaged 13 points, 11 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 steals per
game in a 1-1 week. Scored nine points and hauled in 13 boards
against UMass Lowell. Scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds at
Saint Rose.
Gerald Carter, Southern New Hampshire (Jr., G, Harlem, N.Y.) -
Averaged 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and four assists in two games
last week. Recorded 29 points, going 4-for-7 from three-point land,
in a loss to Assumption.
Weekly Notes:
ASSUMPTION: With the victory over Southern New
Hampshire last Saturday, recorded its fourteenth 20-win season.
Senior forward Greg Twomey (Groton, Mass.) had 16 points last
Saturday against Southern New Hampshire and is just two points away
from 1,000 career points.
BENTLEY: With its win at Saint Michael's Saturday,
Bentley broke the NCAA Division II record for consecutive regular
season victories. It was the 53rd straight win for the Falcons,
breaking the standard held by Langston University for the past 63
years. Bentley's 11 straight weeks atop the Division II national
rankings is the third longest ever. With Memphis losing, the
Falcons are now one of just two remaining unbeatens in NCAA men's
basketball, a distinction they share with Grand Valley State.
FRANKLIN PIERCE: Junior guard Timothy Munch
(Blauvelt, N.Y.) became the 27th player in program history to score
1,000 career points with his ten point effort against Saint Anselm
on Saturday. He has scored 1,001 points in 78 career games
played.
SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT: Senior forward Devon
Sullivan hauled in his 500th career rebound on Feb. 19 against
UMass Lowell. With one game remaining in his collegiate career,
Sullivan has 511 career rebounds, 13 shy of 10th all-time on the
school's career rebounding list.
SAINT ROSE: The Golden Knights recorded their third 20-win
campaign within the last four years on Saturday. Furthermore, it
marked their 16th 20-victory season in the past 22-years.
