Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Jason Westrol, Bentley (So., G, Brielle, N.J.) - Helped undefeated
Bentley repeat as Northeast-10 tournament champions, averaging 17.7
points, six rebounds, five assists and 2.7 steals while shooting 55
percent from the field and 89 percent from the line. Scored 20
points in a first-round overtime win over Le Moyne, and had 23
points (6-9 FG, 11-11 FT) in the championship game against
Assumption. Also had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals
versus the Greyhounds.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Tom Dowling, Bentley (Fr., G, Rockville Centre, N.Y.) - Came off
the bench to shoot 62 percent (13-21) while averaging 12.7 points,
4.7 rebounds and one steal during the NE-10 playoffs. Scored 15
points (5-6 FG, 4-4 FT) in the semifinals against Stonehill and
contributed 20 points (7-12 FG, 5-8 FT), eight rebounds and two
steals in the final against Assumption.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Corey Diethorn, Assumption (Sr., C, Pittsburgh, Pa.) - In a 2-1
week, averaged 16.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks while
shooting 56.7 percent (17-30 FG) from the floor and a perfect
12-for-12 from the foul line. Had 10 points (4-4 FT), eight
rebounds, and a career-high six blocks in a quarterfinal win over
UMass Lowell. Scored 21 points (7-11 FG, 6-6 FT) and grabbed 10
rebounds in a semifinal win over Saint Rose. In the Northeast-10
final at Bentley, had 18 points (7-12 FG, 2-3 3FG, 2-2 FT), 10
rebounds, and three assists.
Yusuf Abdul-Ali, Bentley (Sr., G, Springfield, Mass.) - Averaged 15
points, 4.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals during the
conference playoffs, shooting 52 percent overall and 75 percent
from the line. In the opening round, lifted Bentley to a 67-64
overtime win over Le Moyne with 23 points (8-12 FG, 3-4 3FG, 3-4
FT), seven rebounds and five assists.
Jon Ezeokoli, Bryant (Sr., G, South Orange, N.J.) - Scored 13
points and had seven rebounds in a quarterfinal loss to Saint Rose.
Made 5-of-8 from the floor and connected on 3-of-6 three-point
attempts.
Laurence McGhee, Pace (So., G, Linden, N.J.) - Tallied 12 points,
five rebounds, four assists and two steals in the NE-10
quarterfinals against Stonehill.
Randy Wilson, Pace (Jr., F, Peekskill, N.Y.) - Recorded a
double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, along with two blocks
in the NE-10 Quarterfinals against Stonehill.
Randall Stallworth, Stonehill (So., G, Toms River, N.J.) - Averaged
18 points in two games as the Skyhawks advanced to the conference
semifinals. In the loss at Bentley, scored 28 points, including the
last 18 Stonehill points to trim a 23-point lead down to five in
the final minute. Went 12-for-19 for the game added four-three
point baskets and chipped in three rebounds.
Weekly Notes:
BENTLEY: The number one ranked team in Division
II, was named host of the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional for
the second straight year and third time in four years. The
undefeated Falcons will be making their 14th NCAA tournament
appearance overall, fifth in the last seven years and fourth
straight. Jay Lawson, who has led the Falcons to a 30-0 record,
became the first five-time winner of NE-10 Coach of the Year
honors. Bentley had four players earn All-Northeast-10 honors, the
first time a conference school had that many selections in 21
years. Bentley’s winning streaks include 34 in a row at the
Dana Center, 51 straight against conference opponents and 60
consecutive vs. Northeast Region opposition.
BRYANT: With its selection to the 2008 NCAA Division II
tournament, Bryant is the only Northeast-10 team to qualify for the
NCAA tournament in each of the last five seasons. Bryant has
advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in three of the last four
seasons including a Regional Championship in 2005. This will be
Bryant's 7th all-time appearance in the NCAA tournament and fifth
under coach Max Good.
PACE: Had three players finish their collegiate careers in
the top-20 in scoring in school history. Ryan Williams scored 1,892
points, tied for second all-time, Desmond Quincy-Jones totaled
1,247 points, placing him 16th in scoring and Gibraltar White
tallied 1,222 points, ranking him 19th in scoring. Williams ended
his career as the Setters’ all-time leader in career
three-pointers with 340 and hold three of the top-four
single-season triples records, including the single season record
of 115 in 2006-07. Williams also totaled 175 career steals,
finishing sixth on the school record list. Quincy-Jones recorded
his 100th career block against Stonehill in the NE-10 Quarterfinals
and is one of only five members of the Pace 100-block club. He also
finished with 767 career rebounds, good for fifth all-time in
school history. White finished with 202 three-pointers, good for
third in school history and joins classmate Williams and Jay
Carlington (1998-2002; 259 trifectas) as the only players in school
history with over 200 three-pointers. White also recorded 120
career steals, finishing 11th on the school career list. Sophomore
Laurence McGhee finished the season with 146 assists, good for
fourth on the school single season record list.
