SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Top-seeded and defending national champion Le Moyne will host Limestone in the national semifinals of the NCAA Division II Men?s Lacrosse tournament. The Dolphins (14-0) will host Limestone (14-1) in a rematch of the 2004 title game at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex on Saturday, May 21.
In front of over 19,000 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Le Moyne edged the Saints 11-10 in double overtime. Brandon Spillett (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), the Most Outstanding Player of the championship, scored six of his game-high seven goals after intermission. He netted the game-tying and game-winning scores.
Le Moyne will bring a 30-game winning streak into the tournament. The Dolphins were 16-0 in 2004 and have won all 14 contests this season by seven or more goals. The Dolphins lead the nation in goals allowed per game, limiting the opposition to 2.86 goals per game.
Limestone opened the season with 14 consecutive victories before dropping an 11-9 decision to Meryhurst in Annapolis, Md. Sunday.
The winner of the Le Moyne/Limestone semifinal will meet the winner of the semifinal featuring New York Tech (8-2) and LIU-C.W. Post (9-4). The national championship game will be played May 29 at 3 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The game, which follows the NCAA Division III Championship, will be televised live by College Sports Television (CSTV).
