SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team
captured the program's seventh consecutive Northeast 10 Conference
Tournament title with a 5-4 victory over Bryant. The victory gives
the Dolphins their 8th conference title in program history and
avenges a loss earlier in the season to Bryant that halted Le
Moyne's 70 game conference winning streak.
Brian Cost (Camillus, N.Y. /West Genesee) delivered the first goal
for the Dolphins to put them ahead 1-0 with :22 remaining in the
first quarter. Le Moyne would score quickly in the second quarter
on a Tom Donahue (Syracuse, N.Y. /West Genesee) goal from Nick
Gatto (Syracuse, N.Y. /Henninger). The Bulldogs would break through
for their first goal from Bryan Kaufmann and head into the locker
room at halftime trailing 2-1.
Bryant would come away with the only goal in the third period from
Jim Long and the Bulldogs and Dolphins would enter the fourth
period deadlocked at 2-2. Le Moyne would score the first two goals
of the third period. Brian Cost and Nick Gatto once again connected
for a Le Moyne goal to lift the Dolphins to a 3-2 edge. Mike
McDonald (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) would tally an unassisted goal with
6:26 remaining to give Le Moyne a two goal lead. Bryant would
quickly strike back on Kaufmann's second of three goals on the day
to pull within one at 4-3. McDonald's goal with 3:29 remaining
would be the eventual game winner as the Dolphins took at 5-3 lead
into the final minutes. Kaufman would score a last second goal for
Bryant to wrap up the game at 5-4.
