Adelphi University Places Five on First Team
South Easton, Mass. – Merrimack College junior Greg Melaugh was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year after a vote by the conference's head coaches. Melaugh helped lead the Warriors to a 12-2 record overall, including 8-2 in conference play and the second seed in the upcoming NE-10 Championship.
Adelphi University led all teams with five student-athletes named to the league's First Team, while undefeated Le Moyne College placed eight players on the conference's first and second teams combined.
The top three seeds in the upcoming conference championship; Le Moyne, Merrimack, and Adelphi, combined to account for the entire NE-10 First Team, and for 21 of the 27 student-athletes on the All-Conference Teams, overall.
To see the complete 2012 Northeast-10 All-Conference and All-Rookie teams, see below.
Melaugh, who plays attack for Merrimack, is currently second in the conference in goals with 38, and fourth in points with 51. He also added 13 assists despite appearing in only eleven of the team's fourteen games.
Melaugh was also named a member of the Northeast-10 Conference First Team.
American International College's Bryce Serriello was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year. Serriello finished the regular season with 35 goals, which currently ranks him 4th in the Northeast-10. He also added seven assists for a total of 42 points, which is eighth-best overall.
The high-scoring first-year player factored in on 42 of the Yellow Jackets' 80 goals this season, and was named the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week on three different occasions, more than any other student-athlete.
Le Moyne's Alex Cameron-Carter was selected as the Northeast-10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Year. Cameron-Carter, who was also a First-Team All-Conference selection, helped lead the Dolphins to a perfect regular season (15-0 overall).
Le Moyne leads all of Division II in goals allowed as the Dolphins have only given up 58 goals in their 15 games this season. Their average of 3.87 goals allowed per game is currently 1.3 fewer then the second-place team, Mercyhurst College. Through fifteen games this season, the junior has 29 ground balls and has caused 17 turnovers.
Cameron-Carter's teammate, Jeff White, was named the Conference's Goalkeeper of the Year. White leads the Northeast-10 in a number of statistical categories and was the backbone for the Le Moyne team, which is currently undefeated and second in the country.
White leads the league in goals allowed (45), goals against average (3.89), and save percentage (65.1%). His goals against average of 3.89 leads the country and he is currently second in save percentage. He's also been recognized as the conference's goalkeeper of the week five times during the regular season.
Franklin Pierce University's Rick Senatore was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year by his peers. Senatore lead the Ravens to a 7-6 record this season, the first winning season in the history of the program. The Ravens finished with a 5-5 mark in conference play, just missing out on an appearance in the conference's championship.
Senatore, currently in his third season as head coach at Franklin Pierce, earns the award for the first time in his career at Franklin Pierce. It's the second time he's earned the honor as he was named the Conference's Coach of the Year following the 2007 season when he was the head coach at Saint Anselm College.
The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 5,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
