Franklin Pierce’s David Clifton Named 2007 Player of the Year

South Easton. Mass. – Franklin Pierce University graduate
student David Clifton (London, England)
has been named the 2007 Northeast-10 Men’s Soccer Player of
the Year as voted by the conference’s 14 head coaches.
Clifton leads the Northeast-10 in points per game (2.50), points
(35), goals (16) and fourth in game-winning goals (4) as well as
being ranked nationally in points (3rd) and goals (4th). In
addition, Clifton was named to the Northeast-10 All Conference
First-Team.
Clifton’s fellow teammates were also honored with
post-season accolades. Senior goalkeeper James Thorpe
(East Longmeadow, Mass.) and senior defender
Bisharra Ettienne (East Elmhurst, N.Y.)
were named the 2007 Northeast-10 Goalkeeper and Defensive Player of
the Year respectively.
For the fourth straight year Thorpe was selected as the NE-10
Goalkeeper of the Year. The four-time All Northeast-10 First-Team
selection is ranked 13th nationally in goal against average and is
ranked third in the conference along with being ranked among the
conference leaders in saves percentage (.764) and tied for first in
shutouts with nine.
Ettienne repeats as the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year.
He helped a Franklin Pierce defense hold opponents to 13 goals
scored the whole season along with shutting out nine opponents and
holding 15 opponents to one goal or less. Ettienne was also named
to the All Northeast-10 First-Team.
Assumption College’s Stephen Blaisdell (Peabody,
Mass.) and Le Moyne College’s
Angelo Reina (Frankfurt, N.Y.) were named
the 2007 Northeast-10 Co-Freshman of the Year. Blaisdell ranks
among the conference leaders in goals (7), assists (6) and points
(20). Reina helped lead Le Moyne to the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals
and is ranked seventh in the conference in goals with eight. In
addition, both Blaisdell and Reina were named to the All
Northeast-10 Second-Team.
Franklin Pierce’s Marco Koolman
and UMass Lowell’s Ted Priestly
were named the 2007 Northeast-10 Co-Coaches of the Year. Koolman, a
two-time NE-10 Coach of the Year, led the Ravens to the
team’s third straight regular season title. Priestly, led the
River Hawks to the Northeast-10 tournament with a 12-3-3 overall
record.
