Southern New Hampshire Still Number One in East Region

South Easton, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University
men’s soccer team is ranked number one in the East Region,
for the third consecutive week, in the fourth release of NCAA
Division II regional rankings. The rankings were released by the
NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Committee.
The Penmen are ranked eighth nationally and are among four
Northeast-10 institutions ranked in the East Region. Also in the
rankings for the fourth consecutive week is second ranked Le Moyne
College and fifth ranked Franklin Pierce University. Southern
Connecticut State University moved up the rankings this week to
number six.
Southern New Hampshire (13-2-2, 10-1-2 NE-10) is coming off their
first conference setback of the season; the Penmen were defeated by
Southern Connecticut Saturday night, 2-1. Sophomore
Ethan Lapierre (Manchester, N.H.) scored
the lone goal for the Penmen in the game, while Goalkeeper
Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, Mass.) made two
saves. The Penmen are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they
travel to Bridgeport for non-conference match.
Le Moyne (13-2-2, 9-2-1 NE-10) ranked 20th nationally, won, 2-1,
against Stonehill College on Saturday. Two different players scored
goals for Le Moyne, including the game-winning goal by Northeast-10
Player of the Week, Davide DiPaola (Rochester,
N.Y.). Senior goalkeeper Steve White
(Cortland, N.Y.) had to make three saves in the win.
The Dolphins are travelling to Saint Rose this afternoon for their
final regular season conference match.
Ranked fifth in the region, Franklin Pierce (12-3-2, 10-2-1 NE-10)
is coming off a 1-0 win over Assumption on Saturday. Sophomore
Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.) scored the
lone goal of the match. Sophomore goalkeeper Vinny
Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) had to make one save
in the match to preserve the shutout. The Ravens have finished
regular season play and await the start of the Northeast-10
Championship Tournament.
Southern Connecticut (12-4-1, 9-3-1 NE-10), ranked sixth in the
region, is coming off of a 2-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire
on Saturday. Junior Victor Hernandez (Rye Brook,
N.Y.) scored both goals for the Owls. Sophomore
goalkeeper Daniel Hajducky (Trumbull,
Conn.) made one save in the win. Southern
Connecticut’s regular season play is finished; they now wait
for the Northeast-10 Championship Tournament to begin.
With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction
of being the largest Division II conference in the country along
with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide
athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest
such program of any Division II conference.
