Assumption's Goldman is Player of the Year; Assumption's Dorfman named Freshman of the Year; Stonehill's Hansen earns Sportsmanship Award and Southern N.H.'s Horan Awarded Coach of the Year
South Easton, Mass. ? Senior Michael Goldman of Assumption College has been named 2006 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Tennis Vern Cox Player of the Year. A native of Worcester, Mass., Goldman posted an 11-0 regular season record against conference competition at the number one singles position along with a 10-1 mark as part of number one doubles. This is Goldman's second-straight appointment.
Assumption freshman Jared Dorfman posted an 11-0 record in No. 4 Singles this year for the Greyhounds. He teamed up with Goldman to obtain a 10-1 mark as part of number one doubles.
Matt Hansen, a senior from Hopewell Junction, N.Y. of Stonehill College earned the Northeast-10 Men's Tennis F. Paul Bogan Memorial Sportsmanship Award.
Southern New Hampshire University Men's Tennis Coach Brian Horan was named the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year, as selected by the 12 Northeast-10 coaches. Horan guided the Penmen to their third-straight NE-10 tournament appearance.
Goldman and Dorfman also earned Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team honors. The team also included Antonio Recalde, Matt Stopp and Steve Tulmacki of Assumption, Andy DeVita of Stonehill and Al Duro of Bryant University.
The Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team included Greg Maloomian, Greg Avola and Miles Holman of Bentley College, Ben Caisse and Zach Goodman of Bryant, Rich Lieberman of Assumption and Le Moyne College's Jason Kerzonwski.
Named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Third Team were Pedro DePaula of Southern New Hampshire University, Paul Kosinski and Marko Prljevic of Pace University, Stonehill's Michael Pelaggi, Jason Allegretti and Will Herchel and Merrimack College's Steve Viglione.
The Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team for doubles competition was comprised of Bentley's Greg Malmoonian and Avola, Recalde, Stopp, Lieberman and Tulmacki of Assumption.
The Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team for doubles included Goldman and Dorfman of Assumption, Kosinski and Prljevic of Pace and DeVita and Herchel of Stonehill.
The Northeast-10 All-Conference Third Team for doubles included Matt Garabala, Allegretti, Pelaggi and John McGaffigan of Stonehill and Caisse and Goodman of Bryant.
The Vern Cox Player of the Year Award is named in honor of former longtime Springfield College Head Coach Vern Cox, while the Bogan Memorial Sportsmanship Award is named in honor of the late F. Paul Bogan, Commissioner of the Northeast-10 from 1995-1997.
