ASSUMPTION CLAIMS TOP SEED IN NORTHEAST-10 CHAMPIONSHIP

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 regular season
champion, the Greyhounds of Assumption College are the top seed for
the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Tennis championship,
presented by Webster Bank.
Assumption has claimed its ninth straight Northeast-10 regular
season title, while finishing the season a perfect 13-0 overall and
11-0 in conference play.
Stonehill College (14-4, 10-1 NE-10) received the second seed just
ahead of Bentley College (10-9, 9-2 NE-10) who earned the third
seed. Bryant University (9-6, 8-3 NE-10) received the number four
seed. All four teams will host quarterfinal matches on Thursday
afternoon.
Quarterfinal matches include #8 Southern New Hampshire University
(5-6, 5-6 NE-10) at #1 Assumption, #7 Pace University (6-9, 5-6
NE-10) at #2 Stonehill, #6 Merrimack College (8-9, 6-5 NE-10) at #3
Bentley and #5 Saint Michael’s College (8-9, 6-5 NE-10) at #4
Bryant. Pace won the tie-break with Southern New Hampshire for the
#7 seed due to their regular season conference win and Saint
Michael’s won the tie-break with Merrimack for the #5 seed
due to their regular season conference win.
Quarterfinal matches are slated for 2 p.m. with the exception of
the Pace/Stonehill match, which is set for 3:30 p.m. and the
Merrimack/Bentley match which is still to be determined.
The semifinal round will take place at Bryant on Saturday, April
21 with the winner of Southern New Hampshire/Assumption matching up
with the winner of Saint Michael’s/Bryant at 1 p.m. followed
by the winner of Pace/Stonehill and the winner of Merrimack/Bentley
at 3:30 p.m.
The championship round is slated for 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 22
at Bryant.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the
Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic
conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any
Division II conference.
