Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Antonio Recalde, Assumption (Jr., No. 1 Singles, Ciudad del Este,
Paraguay) - Went a combined 4-0 during the Northeast-10
Championship and was named Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Vern Cox
Player-of-the-Year. Teamed with Matt Stopp to go 3-0 at No. 1
doubles and earned a win at No. 1 singles versus Bryant. Also named
first-team all-conference in singles and doubles.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Michael Mashkevich, Stonehill (Fr., No. 2 Singles/No. 2 Doubles,
Framingham, MA) – The 2007 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year
posted a combined 3-1 mark in singles and doubles play in a 2-1
week. Had doubles victories during the Northeast-10 Championships
over Pace and Bentley.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Jared Dorfman, Assumption (So., No. 3 Singles, Providence, RI) -
Went a combined 3-1 during the Northeast-10 Championships and was
named First-Team All Conference in singles and doubles. Teamed with
Dave Marshall to go 2-1 at No. 2 doubles and earned a win at No. 3
singles against Bryant.
Rich Leiberman, Assumption (Jr., No. 3 dDoubles, East Haddam, CT) -
Teamed with Tom Nowak to go 2-0 at No. 3 doubles at the
Northeast-10 Championships.
Dave Marshall, Assumption (Sr., No. 4 Singles, Newington, CT) -
Went a combined 3-1 during the Northeast-10 Championships and was
named Second-Team All Conference in singles and First-Team in
doubles. Teamed with Jared Dorfman to go 2-1 at No. 2 doubles and
won at No. 4 singles against Bentley.
Tom Nowak, Assumption (Fr., No. 5 Singles, Medfield, MA) - Went a
combined 4-0 during the Northeast-10 Championship, teaming with
Rich Leiberman to go 2-0 at No. 3 doubles and 2-0 at No. 5
singles.
Matt Stopp, Assumption (Sr., No. 2 Singles, Altoona, PA) - Went a
combined 4-0 during the Northeast-10 Championships and was named
First-Team All Conference in singles and doubles. Teamed with
Antonio Recalde to go 3-0 at No. 1 doubles and won at No. 2 singles
against Bryant.
Steve Tlumacki, Assumption (So., No. 6 Singles, Holliston, MA) -
Earned a win at No. 6 singles against Bryant in the Northeast-10
Semi-final match.
Greg Avola, Bentley (Sr., No. 2 Singles, No. 1 Doubles, Framingham,
MA) - Went 3-1 at the Northeast-10 Championship this past week. Won
at top-flight doubles against Merrimack in the quarterfinals and
captured both singles and doubles victories against Stonehill in
the semifinals.
Greg Maloomian, Bentley (Sr., No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles,
Needham, MA) - Went 3-1 at the top flight in the Northeast-10
Championship this past week. Earned a doubles win against Merrimack
in the quarterfinals and won at both singles and doubles against
Stonehill in the semifinals.
Sean Steigerwald, Saint Michael's (So., No. 4 singles, No. 3
doubles, North Andover, MA) – Had an 8-3 doubles victory, at
the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals at Bryant. Added a 6-2, 6-0 singles
win in the regular-season finale against Franklin Pierce.
Andy DeVita, Stonehill (Sr., No. 3 Doubles, Milford, MA) –
Posted a 4-0 combined mark in a 2-1 week. Won in both singles and
doubles play in a 5-0 Northeast-10 quarterfinal round victory over
Pace and posting a win at No. 3 doubles in a 5-3 setback to Bentley
in the semifinals.
Matt Grabala, Stonehill (Sr., No. 1 singles/No. 2 Doubles, Bristol,
CT) - Posted a 3-1 combined mark in singles and doubles play in a
2-1 week. Had a pair of doubles triumphs in the Northeast-10
Championships over Pace and Bentley.
Weekly Notes:
ASSUMPTION: The Greyhounds won their ninth
straight Northeast-10 Championship and will be an automatic
qualifier into the NCAA’s.
STONEHILL: The Skyhawks presented Head Coach Peter Miller
with his 200th career victory in Thursday's Northeast-10
quarterfinal round triumph over Pace, as the 27th year mentor has
averaged nearly eight dual-match triumphs per season during his
tenure. Thursday's quarterfinal round victory enabled Stonehill to
match the school single-season record for victories (15) that the
Skyhawks established last season, as Stonehill is 30-11 (.732) in
the last two springs combined.
