Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Matt Stopp, Assumption (Sr., No. 2 Singles, Altoona, PA) - Went a
combined 2-1 in the NCAA East Regional tournament. Won 6-2, 6-3 at
No. 2 singles and teamed with Antonio Recalde to win 8-2 at No. 1
doubles in a Semi-final victory over Dowling.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Tom Nowak, Assumption (Fr., No. 5 Singles, Medfield, MA ) - Won
6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles in a NCAA East Regional semi-final
victory over Dowling.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Antonio Recalde, Assumption (Jr., No. 1 Doubles, Ciudad del Este,
Paraguay) - Teamed with Matt Stopp to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles in a
NCAA East Regional semi-final victory over Dowling.
Weekly Notes:
ASSUMPTION: Senior Matt Stopp (Altoona,
PA/Altoona) finished his career with a 61-3 singles record and the
best win-loss percentage in school history (.953). His 61 wins are
tied for the fourth most in program history. In doubles, Stopp
amassed a 66-5 record and the second best win-loss percentage
(.930) in school history. His 66 wins are tied for fifth-best in a
career. Fellow classmate Dave Marshall (Newington,
CT/Kingswood-Oxford) ended his career with a 45-7 singles mark
(.865 win pct) and a 54-8 doubles mark (.871), both among the best
in program history. 10-0 17-1 season done 5-1 win vs. Dowling (May
3) 5-0 loss versus Concordia (May 4).
STONEHILL: The Skyhawks made their second straight
appearance in the NCAA Division II Championships and third in the
last four seasons, hosting the East Regionals for the second
straight spring as well.
