Stonehills Fayed Named Mens Tennis Player of the Year

South Easton, Mass. – Stonehill College sophomore
Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn.) was named
the 2009 Vern Cox Men’s Tennis Player of Year.
Fayed is currently 20-1 overall in the number one singles position
and finished Northeast-10 action with a perfect 10-0 record. He
helped lead the Skyhawks to their first-ever Northeast-10 Regular
Season Title. In doubles action, Fayed teamed up with Mike
Mashkevich in number one doubles and are currently 15-3 overall.
The duo finished conference play with an 8-0 record. In addition,
Fayed was named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team.
Merrimack College’s Rishi Rajpal (New Delhi,
India) was named the 2009 Northeast-10 Freshman of
the Year. In his first year of collegiate action, Rajpal is
currently 9-4 overall and finished conference play with a 6-1
record at number one singles. He also teamed with Adam Wilding at
number two doubles. They finished NE-10 play with a 5-1 record and
are currently 9-2 at the number two spot. Rajpal was also named to
the All-Northeast-10 Third Team for singles and Second Team for
doubles.
Merrimack’s senior John Seaward (Pomfret,
Conn.) was the recipient of the 2009 F. Paul Bogan
Memorial Sportsmanship Award. Seaward is currently 15-2 overall in
the singles play at the number three spot and finished conference
play with a 10-0 record. In doubles play, Seaward teamed with Max
Eppley as the duo finished NE-10 play 8-1. He was also named to the
All-Northeast-10 First Team for singles and Second Team for
doubles.
Merrimack’s head coach Chris
Stevens was honored as the 2009 Northeast-10 Coach of
the Year. Stevens guided the Warriors to a conference record of 9-1
and the second seed in the men’s tennis championship.
Merrimack is currently 13-4 overall.
The Vern Cox Player of the Year Award is named in honor of the
former longtime Springfield College head coach Vern Cox, while the
Bogan Memorial Sportsmanship Award is named in honor of the late F.
Paul Bogan, Commissioner of the Northeast-10 from 1995-1997.
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
conference.
