Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Lisa Castillo, Assumption (Sr., OF, Lawrence, MA) - Batted .400 (14-for-35, 6 R, 2 RBI, 2 2B, 1 3B, 5 BB, 2 SB, 3 SH) and slugged .514 (18 TB) in a 7-5 week. Went 6-for-8 with two doubles, a run scored, and a stolen base in two games with Holy Family. Also went 3-for-4 versus Dominican with two runs scored. Went 2-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI versus Slippery Rock.
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Lauren Symonick, Assumption (So., SP, Northbridge, MA) - In 22.2 innings pitched, went 3-1 with 26 strike outs, one walk, nine runs (two earned, 0.63 ERA), a save, and a combined shutout. In a start versus Holy Family, went five innings, two hits allowed, no runs, and four strike outs for the combined shutout. In three relief appearances, pitched 9.2 innings with 14 strike outs, no walks, 10 hits, three runs (all unearned), and a save.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Kerry Wilusz, Saint Anselm (Fr., OF, Dighton, MA) - Started all 10 games and was 14-of-34 at the plate (.412) with five runs scored, three doubles, four runs batted in and a walk.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Leigh Cavanaugh, Bentley (So., 1B, Cheshire, CT) - Opened the season with five hits in 12 at bats (.417), with two runs scored and one RBI, in four games in Fort Myers. Hit safely in all four games.
Jessica Wilson, Saint Anselm (So., OF, Billerica, MA) - Hit .516 in 10 games last week and totaled six runs, four RBI, a triple, stolen base and one walk. Was 16-of-31 at the plate as the team posted a 5-5 record last week at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
Casey Brooks, Saint Michael's (Jr., 2B, Colchester, VT) - Batted .409 (9-22) with a home run, triple, double, stolen base, three runs and three RBI in a 2-4 week at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Went 4-4 with a homer and two RBI versus Dominican, and went 2-4 against Post and Wilmington.
Megan O'Connor, Saint Michael's (Fr., SP, Georgetown, MA) - Went 1-2 while allowing just four earned runs in 19.1 innings pitched (1.45 ERA) with 14 strikeouts, and went 4-17 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI in a 2-4 week at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Earned the win with 6.1 innings of relief versus Wilmington, while adding a two-run double, and pitched complete games against Minnesota-Moorhead (no earned runs) and Domincan (nine strikeouts).
Christine Grenache, Stonehill (Sr., 1B, Leominster, MA) - Batted .333 (4-12) with four walks, pair of doubles and home run in a 5-1 week at the Rebel Spring Games, including a two-run game-tying homer in a 4-3 win over C.W. Post and a pair of RBI in a 5-2 triumph over Bellarmine.
Katie Mottau, Stonehill (Fr., SP, Woonsocket, RI) - Posted 2-0 mark with a 1.17 ERA in pair of starts at the Rebel Spring Games with 14 strikeouts, including complete-game seven hitter with 10 strikeouts in 5-2 win over Bellarmine.
Lauren Rappoli, Stonehill (So., SS, Wilmington, MA) - Batted .438 (7-16) in a 5-1 week at the Rebel Spring Games, including four hits and pair of RBI in 5-2 win over Bellarmine.
Notes:
Assumption: Assumption finished its annual spring break schedule in Ft. Myers, FL with a 7-5 record, winning three of their last four games. The Hounds played six of their twelve games against regional opponents (4-2). Head Coach Ralph DeLucia won his 200th game for Assumption in the season opener versus Quincy, IL (6-5). His career record as Greyhound coach stands at 206-164-5. Another Hound milestone came from senior Lisa Castillo (Lawrence, MA/Methuen) as she recorded her 100th career hit versus Dominican, a fifth inning single. Castillo leads the team in multiple hit games with four (three 3 hit games). Senior Shalynn Napolitano (Lawrence, MA/Fellowship Christian) was solid in six relief appearances in Florida. In 10.1 innings pitched, she struck out 14 batters, walking just three, allowed no earned runs, and registered three saves. In her last start on Saturday, Napolitano pitched a complete game one-hit shutout of Slippery Rock, striking out seven and walking two. Junior Sandra Denman (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) batted .364 (12-for-33, 2 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 7 RS, 6 RBI, 5 BBs, 3 SB), slugged .606 (20 TB), and made no errors in 78 chances last week. She went 2-for-4 vs. Felician and 2-for-3 in games with Quincy, IL (RBI, triple, SB), Bridgeport (double) and North Dakota. Sophomore Lauren Symonick (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge) didn't allow an earned run in her first 21.1 innings pitched and, at one point, didn't give up a run in 17 straight innings (21 strikeouts, no walks). Junior Stephanie Brooks (Reading, MA/Reading) hit a pinch-hit three run homerun against Holy Family last Friday (went a combined 3-for-4, 6 RBI, 2 RS, HR on the day). Assumption hit four triples in their final Florida game against Slippery Rock, PA on Saturday Stonehill: Stonehill posted its best spring break record in five seasons with a 5-5 slate at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, as the Skyhawks won five of their last six contests on the trip...Freshman P Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) recorded the highest single-game strikeout total for a Skyhawk pitcher in three years by fanning 10 in a 5-2 win over Bellarmine...Sophomore SS Lauren Polselli (Wilmington, Mass.) recorded a career-best four-hit performance in the win over Bellarmine Bentley First-year Bentley softball coach Michele DeGregorio has started four freshmen in each of the season's first four games.
