Northeast-10 Player of the Week

Laurie Tanguay, UMass Lowell (Jr., OF, Lowell, MA) - Batted .500 in a 4-2 week, including wins over Le Moyne (2), Assumption and Southern New Hampshire. Set a team record by hitting a home run in four consecutive games, two of which proved to be the game-winning RBIs. For the week, collected four home runs, six runs scored and 12 RBI while maintaining a slugging percentage of 1.222. In the field, had 14 putouts and one assist for a fielding percentage of 1.000.

Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week

Kristen Mahoney, UMass Lowell (Jr., SP, Burlington, MA) - Maintained a 0.78 ERA in a 3-0 week. Tossed a no-hitter in an 8-0 win at Assumption to earn her first of two shutouts on the week. The second shutout was a 1-0 victory at Southern New Hampshire. Earned a 5-2 win over Le Moyne.

Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week

Ashley Bernstein, Southern New Hampshire (Fr., SP, Stoughton, MA) - Appeared in four games (2 starts) and posted a 3-0 record and a 1.35 ERA during a 5-1 week. Totaled 13 strikeouts in 20 innings. Tossed a complete-game four-hitter in a 5-1 win over UMass Lowell. Picked up a win and a save (8 K) during a sweep of Saint Rose. Also batted a team-high .533 (8-15) during the week. Went a combined 5-for-6 (3 2B, 3B) and drove in eight runs against Saint Rose.

Weekly Honor Roll:

Kellie Brown, American International (Fr., OF, Gill, MA) - Batted .500 (10-20) with two home runs, two doubles, a triple and six runs batted in a 4-2 week. Went 3-for-3 with four runs batted in and hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning of a 5-2 victory over Merrimack.

Shalynn Napolitano, Assumption (Sr., RP, Lawrence, MA) - In four relief appearances, went 2-0 with two saves, no runs allowed, seven strike outs, one walk, and one hit in 6.2 innings. Earned relief wins over American International (H, 2 K) and Stonehill (3 IP, 5 K, BB) and recorded saves versus Saint Michael's (1.0 IP, 0 H) and Stonehill (1.1 IP, 0 H). Opposing hitters were just 1-for-20 (.050) on the week.

Caitlin Stazinski, Assumption (Jr., SP, Westboro, MA) - In 17.1 innings pitched, went 2-0 (0.81 ERA) with two combined shutouts, 12 strike outs, three runs (two earned), and a .175 batting average against. Earned a win over Saint Michael's in game two, allowing just four hits in six innings of work. Pitched four scoreless innings, striking out six, in game two at Stonehill.

Amanda Gagne, Bryant (Jr., SS, Wilbraham, MA) - Hit .438 (7-16) in six games this week scoring six runs while knocking in seven. Also had two sacrifices and a home run. Went a combined 4-for-6 in two games with Pace driving in five runs and scoring three including a homerun.

Amanda Wilbur, Bryant (Jr., OF, Lakeville, MA) - Hit .444 (8-18) in six games this week. Drove in eight runs and also scored eight runs. Hit three homeruns and stole three bases. Went 2-for-4 against Bentley with a homerun, four runs scored, four RBI and a stolen base. Went 2-for-3 against Pace including a homerun and three RBI.

Janine Enos, Bryant (So., SP, Wareham, MA) - Went 2-0 this week throwing a combined 12 innings ( 0.00 ERA, 11 K) without allowing a single run. Had a seven inning complete game shutout against Merrimack striking out three. Threw a complete game five inning performance against Pace only allowing five hits and no runs while striking out eight.

Linsday Knapp, Franklin Pierce (So., SP, Elmira, NY) - In a 2-2 week, tossed a complete game three-hitter, allowing one run (unearned) and striking out two against Saint Anselm. Also notched a complete game shutout against Saint Rose, hurling seven innings, allowing only four hits while striking out two.

Lindsay Spaziani, Le Moyne (Jr., OF, Horseheads, NY) - Hit .471 (8-17, HR, 4 RBI) in a 1-3 week. Slugged .765 with three total extra-base hits.

Kristen Belair, Merrimack (Jr., 1B, Methuen, MA) – In a 3-5 week, hit .385, collecting 10 hits in 28 chances, including six extra base hits, including one homerun. Had six RBI, walked four times, and stole two bases.

Megan O'Connor, Saint Michael's (Fr., SP, Georgetown, MA) - Allowed no earned runs or walks and just six hits in 13 innings pitched while compiling a 1-1 record, and fanned 12 batters. Pitched a one-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts in a 1-0 loss at Assumption, and threw a five-hit shutout with five strikeouts versus Saint Rose. Added two hits and a sacrifice at the plate while playing errorless defense.

Meggan Roberge, Saint Michael's (Jr., SP, Sheldon Springs, VT) - Allowed just two earned runs, two walks and eight hits in 13 innings pitched (1.08 ERA) while compiling a 1-1 record, and struck out 17 batters. Threw a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts versus Saint Rose, and added six strikeouts in a complete-game loss at Assumption. Went 2-for-7 at the plate with a double while playing errorless defense.

Emily Atkinson, Southern Connecticut (Jr., C, Novato, CA) – Hit .538 (7-13, 2 R, 4 RBI, SB) including two doubles, while posting a .692 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage.

Kristyna Bertolone , Southern Connecticut (Jr., RP, Farmingville, NY) - Pitched seven innings allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out seven. Finished the week with a 0.00 ERA.

Jessica Dempsey, Southern Connecticut (So., SP, Stratford, CT) - Finished the week at 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA. Struck out 12 in 10.2 innings pitched while Southern Connecticut went 2-1-1 on the week.

Katie Mottau, Stonehill (Fr., SP, Woonsocket, TI) - Posted a 1-1 mark in pair of appearances on the mound with a 1.00 ERA, including a complete-game seven strikeout effort that included a pair of run scoring doubles and four RBI at the plate in a 5-2 triumph over Merrimack. Also went the distance in allowing an unearned run and fanning seven in 1-0 setback to Assumption, averaging a strikeout per inning pitched (14 K, 14 IP) on the week.

Weekly Notes:

BRYANT: The seventh ranked Bulldogs are riding a six game win streak and have won 10 consecutive Norhteast-10 Conference games. They are also currently are on an eight game Northeast-10 home winning streak. The single season record for homeruns by a Bulldog is eight and Bryant has to players (Amanda Wilbur and Amanda Gagne) each with seven homeruns. Lindsay Connor is 17-18 on stolen base attempts this year… UMASS LOWELL: UMass Lowell had a nine-game win streak halted with a split at Assumption Tuesday. The nine-game streak was the fourth longest in program history, tying a nine-game clip last season. Junior Laurie Tanguay and freshman Stacey Lajoie both have six home runs for the season, two shy of the single season record for home runs (8) set by Amber Gagnon in 2001. Junior SP Kristen Mahoney threw her first career no-hitter in an 8-0 win at Assumption last Tuesday. Sophomore Julie Brodie tied the career record for hit by a pitch with her 17th when she was hit in the seventh inning last Thursday… SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Penmen (14-14, 13-3) stand three conference wins shy of setting a new program record for most league wins in a season. SNHU posted a program-best 15 league wins during the 2004 season. Junior Felicia Brum (Braintree, MA) recorded her 100th career hit diring a sweep of Saint Rose last week. She has totaled 104 hits in 101 career games and has also establsihed a new program-record for career doubles. She has totaled 26 2Bs, eclipsing the old standard of 24 set by Kathy Kiley (1991-94). Senior Nikki Cote (Bristol, RI) has moved into second place in career hits at SNHU with 118. Lynda Kent (1984-87) owns the program-record for career hits (136)… ASSUMPTION: Assumption has won 11 of their last 13 games and are now 24-14 overall after hovering around .500 (13-12) on April 8 after a doubleheader with Dowling. The Hounds finished a 13-game home stand (9-4) last Thursday with a sweep of Saint Michael's. Junior pitcher Caitlin Stazinski (Westboro, MA/Westboro) went a perfect 4-0 on the mound during the home stand and had a 0.77 ERA in 27.1 innings pitched. Senior third baseman Tania Palumbo (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) batted .370 (10-for-27) with three home runs, six runs scored, and eight RBI in 11 games. Palumbo also slugged .704 (19 TB) and walked seven times. Sophomore catcher/designated player Korina Salafia (Leominster, MA/Leominster) batted .353 (12-for-34) with seven runs scored and five RBI in 13 games. The Hound pitching staff threw seven complete games and had five shutouts. Sophomore pitcher Lauren Symonick (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge) has struck out 62 batters this season to only 7 walks (has not walked more than one batter in a game this season). Symonick pitched a three-hit shutout of Saint Michael's (4 Ks) last Thursday… LE MOYNE: With a washed out weekend against Franklin Pierce and Bryant, the Dolphins have six doubleheaders remaining in the season… American International AIC is 8-4 over its last 12 games and has matched its win total from the 2005 season. Last week, the Yellow Jackets defeated Le Moyne for the first time since 2003 and also swept a doubleheader from Merrimack for the first time since 2003. Freshman Sara Puglisi (Amsterdam, N.Y.) has won each of her last five decisions in the circle (six starts) and has registered a 1.15 earned run average over that span, striking out 21 batters while walking just seven. Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) has hit safely in each of the last five games and in 12 of her last 13 games... STONEHILL: Stonehill posted its first victory over Merrimack in nearly 21 years with Wednesday's 5-2 nightcap triumph, as the Skyhawks ended the Warriors' 31-game winning streak in the series that had dated back to April 21, 1985. Stonehill won the first two meetings between the two teams, but Merrimack had swept every doubleheader since 1986 and extended its series win mark to 31 straight before the nightcap Skyhawk triumph. Freshman P Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.), who wasn't even born the last time Stonehill defeated Merrimack, helped end the Skyhawk hex against the Warriors with a complete-game effort that included seven strikeouts, and she helped her own cause with a pair of run scoring doubles and four RBI. Stonehill's current total of 16 victories is its highest in five seasons… SAINT MICHAEL'S: Junior Casey Brooks (Colchester, Vt.) needs just two more base hits to match the program record of 120 set by Noelle Gill '05, and four more hits to tie Gill's single-season record of 44 hits set in 2003. Junior Meggan Roberge (Sheldon Springs, Vt.) struck out the 500th batter of her career in Saturday's 3-0 shutout of Saint Rose. She accomplished the feat in just 455 innings pitched… BENTLEY: Sophomore Briana Kneeland (Winthrop, Mass.) became the second Falcon to have a double-digit hitting streak this season, with her's reaching 11 games. Earlier this month, freshman Alex Hitchcock (Abington, Mass.) set a school record by hitting in 16 straight.
