Northeast-10 Player and Freshman of the Week

Caitlin O'Neill, Le Moyne (Fr., 3B, Pittsford, NY) - Hit .417 (10-24) with three doubles, one triple, one home run, four runs scored and 10 RBI in a 4-2 week. Went 5-for-7 with one home run and four RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Saint Michael's.

Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week

Jill Gagnon, Merrimack (Fr., SP, Manchester, NH) - Was 2-0 on the mound last week, posting wins over Assumption and Le Moyne. Had one shutout and two complete games, pitching 15 innings. Struck out seven and allowed just seven hits and one earned run.

Weekly Honor Roll:

Teresa Bonavita, American International (So., 1B, Agawam, MA) - Batted .351 (13-37, 2B, 3B, HR, 7 R, 4 RBI) in 10 games last week. Registered a career-high four hits in an extra inning loss to Southern Connecticut. Delivered a two-run triple in a game one 5-0 win over Saint Anselm, then led off the second game with a home run.

Tania Palumbo, Assumption (Sr., 3B, Worcester, MA) - Batted .375 (9-24, 5 R, 3 HR, 2 2B, 8 RBI) and slugged .833 (20 TB) in a 6-4 week. Went 3-for-5 (HR, 2 RBI, 2 RS) in a doubleheader sweep over Saint Rose, 2-for-7 (3-R HR in game 2) against Southern N.H., and 3-for-7 (HR, RS, 3 RBI, double) in a doubleheader sweep over Saint Anselm. Had game-winning home runs against Saint Rose (2-run, game 1) and Saint Anselm (solo, game 1).

Sarah Taglienti, Assumption (Jr., SS, Walpole, MA) - Batted .400 (12-30, 6 RS, HR, 5 RBI) and slugged .500 (15 TB) in a 6-4 week. Went 5-for-5 (2 RBI) in a doubleheader sweep over Saint Rose and 3-for-6 (3 RS, RBI) in a sweep of Pace. Went 1-for-4 (HR, RS, RBI) in game two at Merrimack.

Dina Ferriero, Bentley (Fr., OF, Tewksbury, MA) - Hit .458 (11-24) with six runs scored and three RBI during a 2-6 week. Also had two doubles, two triples, a .536 on base percentage and a .708 fielding percentage. Was 5-for-6 in a doubleheader sweep of Saint Anselm, 3-for-6 in two games vs. Saint Rose and 3-for-7 vs. Franklin Pierce.

Lindsay Connor, Bryant (Jr., OF, West Haven, CT) - Hit .478 (11-23) in a 5-1 week including six RBI and five runs scored. Had a slugging percentage of .696 including three doubles and a triple. A team high 16 total bases in six games this week. Also base attempts was 4-4 on stolen.

Victoria Duane, Bryant (So., 1B, West Haven, CT) - Hit .444 in six games this week with six RBI and six runs scored. Had a slugging percentage of .778 which included three doubles and a home run. Was also 2-2 on stolen base attempts.

Janine Enos, Bryant (So., SP, Wareham, MA) - Had an ERA of 1.33 in three complete game wins (3-0) this week. Struckout 21 batters in 21 innings allowing just four earned runs.

Brie O'Brien, UMass Lowell (So., 2B, Los Angeles, CA) - Had a .375 average, a .813 slugging percentage and a .444 on base percentage for the week while belting the first two home runs of her career. Responsible for four of UML's five RBI in an 11-6 loss at Bryant, with a three-run homer in the sixth inning and another RBI in the seventh. Hit safely in each of the six games this week.

Tracy Vadala, Merrimack (Jr., OF, Salem, NH) - Hit .455 (10-22) and knocked in two runs and had two doubles with four runs scored in a 5-1 week. In addition, she was perfect in the field.

Maggie Russell, Saint Michael's (So., OF, Wellesley, MA) - Batted .458 (11-24) with five runs scored and just two strikeouts in a 3-5 week. Went 6-7 with three runs in the doubleheader versus Bryant, and 3-6 with a stolen base in the doubleheader at Stonehill. Didn't commit an error in the field.

Kristen Calahan, Saint Rose (So., SP, LaGrange, NY) - Went 4-1 in five starts with a 0.80 ERA, throwing two shutouts and striking out 39 opposing batters. Allowed just four earned runs in 35 innings of work and held opponents to a .173 batting average. Struck out 10 in a loss to Assumption and fanned 11 in a 1-0 win at Bentley.

Jessica Dempsey, Southern Connecticut (So., SP, Stratford, CT) - Finished the week with a 0.99 ERA and a 3-0 record while pitching three complete games and one shutout. In 28.1 innings, allowed just five runs while striking out 27 batters.

Emily Atkinson, Southern Connecticut (Jr., C, Novato, CA) - In a 7-0-1 week, hit .433 (13-30, 2B, 3 R, 6 RBI). Went 2-for-4 in and had a RBI in a 4-3 win over Southern New Hampshire and went 3-for-5 with a RBI in the win over American International.

Karissa Bettencourt, Southern New Hampshire (Fr., SS, Norton, MA) - Batted a team-high .484 (15-31) and scored a team-high seven runs in a 7-5 week. Posted a .645 slugging percentage and a .579 on-base percentage. Went a combined 5-for-7 (3B, HR) in a doubleheader sweep of Assumption. Went 3-for-3 with a run scored in a 2-1 win over Pace.

Caitlin Flanagan, Stonehill (So., C, Cornwall, NY) - Batted .320 (8-25) with two homers, five runs scored and five RBI in 3-5 week, including game-tying home run and two RBI in 4-3 triumph over Saint Michael's and three hits and pair of RBI in 7-2 win at UMass Lowell. Handled all 21 chances in field without an error and posted .560 slugging percentage and .393 on-base percentage.

Weekly Notes:

BRYANT: The Bulldogs extended their longest winning streak of the season to 11 before dropping a game to Saint Michael's on Sunday. Bryant went 5-1 this week and have won 21 of their last 24 games. The Bulldogs have also clinched their first ever Northeast-10 Regular season title with a 6-2 win over Saint Michael's in game one on Sunday? UMASS LOWELL: Junior Vikki Guido set a school record this week and tied another, as she earned her fourth and fifth saves of the year. She broke the mark for saves in a season with her fourth in a 6-3 victory over Stonehill Thursday and tied the standard for career saves when she earned her fifth Sunday American International? SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Penmen have qualified for the six-team NE-10 Tournament for the first time since SNHU joined the league in 2000-01. SNHU has established a program-record for wins in a season (21), eclipsing the previous mark of 19 set in 2004. Senior Nikki Cote (Bristol, RI) established a new program-record for career games played (148) during the regular-season finale vs. Pace. She has totaled 130 career hits, and enters the post-season seven hits shy of breaking Lynda Kent's (1984-87) school-record for career hits (136). Cote, junior Felicia Brum (Braintree, MA) and freshman Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA) have all totaled a team-high 40 hits, which ties the program-record for hits in a season. Brum has moved into fourth place in career RBI (51) among SNHU's all-time leaders. Junior Ashley Smith (Franklin, NH) has totaled 104 strikeouts this season enters the post-season one strikeout shy of 200 for her career. ASSUMPTION: Assumption swept a doubleheader against Saint Anselm on Sunday on Senior Day to finish the regular season with a 30-18 overall record (19-9 NE-10). It is the seventh 30-win season in program history and the 19 conference wins is a new school record. Senior third baseman Tania Palumbo (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) hit her conference leading 10th home run of the season in game 1 against the Hawks. Palumbo is just the third Greyhound to have a 10-home run season and the third to have 20 or more career home runs. Junior short stop Sarah Taglienti (Walpole, MA/Walpole) had a team-high 9-game hitting streak end in game 2 versus Southern New Hampshire? LE MOYNE: The Dolphins have won 20 or more games in seven straight seasons. Sophomore Caylinn Christophersen carried a perfect game into the fifth inning of a 9-1 win over Bentley? AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL: The AIC softball field, previously known as Yellow Jackets Field, was renamed Coach Judy Groff Softball Field on Saturday in a ceremony to honor the 38-year head coach, who earlier this season became just the fifth coach in Division II softball history to win 850 career games. The Yellow Jackets won their first game on the newly-christened field by topping Saint Anselm 5-0. Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) rapped out a career-high four hits in an extra inning setback to Southern Connecticut Tuesday. She saw a nine-game hit streak snapped Thursday at Saint Rose but closed out the season by hitting safely in 20 of her final 23 games. Bonavita also hit her first career home run Saturday. Freshman Kellie Brown's (Gill, Mass.) eight home runs this season were the most by a Yellow Jacket player since Carolyn McGowan hit 11 in 1999. Her 25 runs batted in were the most since current AIC assistant coach Amber Radomski knocked in 27 runs in 2003. Classmate Sara Puglisi (Amsterdam, N.Y.)posted a 7-1 record over her final 12 appearances in the circle, posting a 1.20 earned run average and a .207 opponent batting average over that span. STONEHILL: Stonehill freshman C Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) tied former Skyhawk standout Jennifer McBride's single-season home run mark withher sixth round tripper of the season, a walk-off solo shot in a 4-3 win over Saint Michael's on Saturday. The Skyhawks' team total of 21 home runs to date is two shy of the school mark...Stonehill collected its first win over UMass Lowell in five seasons with Thursday's nightcap triumph, snapping a nine-game River Hawk winning streak in the series between the two schools that dated back to April 2001...The Skyhawks' 19 overall wins and 12 conference triumphs to date mark Stonehill's highest totals in both categories in five years?SAINT MICHAEL'S: Junior Casey Brooks (Colchester, Vt.) set the program record for career hits on Saturday at Stonehill, besting the previous mark of 120 set by Noelle Gill '05. On Sunday at Bryant, Brooks also bested Gill's single-season record for base hits (44, set in 2003). Brooks also set the program record with her ninth career triple on Thursday against Le Moyne. Wednesday at Franklin Pierce, senior Meagan Newland (East Burke, Vt.) belted three home runs, moving into third all-time with 10 career round-trippers, and became the fourth player in program history with 100 career hits. Newland also started her 150th career contest on Saturday at Stonehill (has started all 153 games over the last four seasons), and needs three doubles in the final four games to match the program record of 23 set by Jamie Cronin '95. Saint Michael's has also set the program record for doubles in a season (currently with 42, old record of 37 set in 2003 and 2004) and batters struck out (258, old record of 239 set in 2005), and matched the program record for base hits in a season (271, set in 2005).
