Northeast-10 Player of the Week
D.J. Ketchel, Pace (So., SS, Staten Island, NY) - In six games, batted a team-high .471 (8-17) with a homerun, seven RBI and three runs scored. Also had three doubles for the week. Against Montreat, went 3-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored in the first game while against Bowie State, went 4-for-7 with a homerun, three doubles, five RBI and one runs scored in the doubleheader.
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Lauren Symonick, Assumption (So., RP, Northbridge, MA) - In 12 innings pitched, went 1-1 with a save, five strikeouts, two earned runs, and allowed opposing batters to hit .182 from the plate. Earned a win in relief, going three innings, allowing a hit, an unearned run, and a walk against Queens. In a doubleheader against Post, pitched six innings, allowing two hits, an earned run, and recorded a save. In game one, pitched four hitless innings with a strikeout and no runs.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Kellie Brown, American International (Fr., 1B, Gill, MA) - Slugged .778 and batted .333 in six games last week with two home runs and four runs batted in. Went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in a 6-2 win over Post.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Teresa Bonavita, American International (So., OF, Agawam, MA) - Batted .389 with three doubles and three runs batted in six games. Also was successful in four of five stolen base attempts. Went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and three steals in a win over Post.
Tania Palumbo, Assumption (Sr., 3B, Worcester, MA) - Hit .462 (6-for-13, 5 R, 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI) and slugged 1.000 (13 total bases) in a 2-2 week. Went 2-for-3 (2R HR, 2 RS, 2 BB, 2 RBI) in a win over Queens. Combined to go 4-for-6 (HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 RS), including the game-winning two run homer in a win over Post. In game two, recorded 11 put outs with no errors.
Korina Salafia, Assumption (So., DH, Leominster, MA) - Batted .385 (5-13, 2 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI) and slugged .846 (11 total bases) in a 2-2 week. Went 3-for-7 (HR, 4 RBI, R), including hitting the game-winning three run home run in game two, in the doubleheader against Queens. In game two against Post University, went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a two-run home run.
Lindsay Connor, Bryant (Jr., OF, West Haven, CT) - Went 3-for-7 scoring three runs and knocking in one in two games this week. Also had a stolen base.
Jordan Dargon, Bryant (Sr., C, Trumbull, CT) - Went 2-for-3 driving in two runs and scoring one. Also walked three times in a 1-1 week.
Jenna Giardina, Franklin Pierce (So., SS, Pittsfield, MA) - In eight games, totaled seven hits, six runs scored and three RBI, while swiping two bases. In a game versus Saint Joseph, went 2-for-3, with three runs scored. In a win against Mount Mercy College, went 2-for-4, while scoring two runs and notching one RBI.
Cyrilla Suker, Le Moyne (Fr., SP , Voorheesville, NY) - Maintained a 1.27 ERA and struck out seven in an 0-2 week. Gave up just two hits and one earned run while walking zero and striking out six in a 1-0 loss at Dowling.
Stacey Jajoie, UMass Lowell (Fr., SS, Gardner, MA) - Posted a .385 batting average in four games, going 5-for-13 at the plate with three doubles, one home run, three runs scored and two RBI with a slugging percentage of .846.
Julia Hunt, Pace (Jr., SP, Mahopac, NY) - Posted a 2-1 record with 17 strikeouts. Against Montreat, struck out seven. Against Bowie State, held opponents to one run while striking out seven in a complete game win.
Kelly Brenner, Southern Connecticut (Sr., SP, Hamden, CT) - Went 3-for-3 with three RBI in a 3-0 win over Albright. Also pitched a complete game shutout allowing only two hits. Finished the week in Bridgeport, going 4-for-7 with two doubles and batted .500 (8-16) for the week with a .688 slugging percentage. Pitched 16.2 innings in all, allowing six hits while striking out 12.
Nikki Cote, Southern New Hampshire (Sr., OF, Bristol, RI) - Batted a team-high .355 (11-31) with two 2B and two 3B in a 1-9 week. Had two hits and scored a run in an extra-inning loss to Armstrong Atlantic.
Caitlin Flanagan, Stonehill (So., C, Cornwall, NY) - Batted .667 (4-6) with four hits and four RBI in a doubleheader sweep at Dowling, including three-run homer in 4-3 opening game triumph.
Danielle Mason, Stonehill (So., SP, Salisbury, MA) - Picked up a 4-3 triumph at Dowling, scattering five hits and fanning three in complete-game effort.
Courtney Young, Stonehill (Fr., C, Danvers, MA) - Batted .429 (3-7) in a doubleheader sweep at Dowling, including game-winning solo home run in the top of sixth of a 4-3 triumph. Added a pair of hits and two RBI in a 6-4 victory.
Weekly Notes:
STONEHILL: Off to its best start in five seasons, Stonehill has won five straight and seven of its last eight contests dating back to March 8th, including a one-run triumph over 24th-ranked C.W. Post. The top three hitters in the Skyhawk lineup have combined for a .340 batting average to date, led by freshman C Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) at .375 through 12 games. Stonehill is perfect in 15 stolen base attempts to date and has posted a .961 fielding percentage through 12 contests, a 14 point improvement from last season? ASSUMPTION: After a two-week layoff, Assumption got back on the field over the weekend with doubleheaders against Queens, NY and Post University. They will open up their conference schedule on Wednesday when they travel to Bryant. Assumption's home opener is scheduled for this Saturday against Southern Connecticut. Senior third baseman Tania Palumbo (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) and sophomore catcher Korina Salafia (Leominster, MA/Leominster) combined to hit .423 (11-for-26) over the weekend with 4 home runs (each hitting a game-winning home run), 11 RBI, 24 total bases (.923 slugging pct), and 7 runs scored? FRANKLIN PIERCE: Franklin Pierced opened its 2006 season with a 5-0 record for the first in the program's NCAA era? UMASS LOWELL: UMass Lowell freshman Stacey Lajoie has hit safely in each of her last six games. She has been held without a hit in just four of her 17 games thus far and is third on the team in batting with a .302 average? SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE: Senior Nikki Cote (Bristol, RI) recorded her 100th career hit during SNHU's one-week stay in Florida. She batted a team-high .342 (13-38) during the week and has now totaled 103 hits over her four-year career. Junior Ashley Smith (Franklin, NH) recorded her 100th career strikeout during the week. She posted 31 strikeouts diring six appearances and has recorded 126 Ks over her three-year career. SNHU's lone win during the week marked the first career win for first-year head coach Deb Robitaille.
