Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Emma Murphy, Le Moyne (So., 1B, East Syracuse, NY) - Hit .391 (9-23) with four home runs, six runs scored and nine RBI in a 4-2 week. Homered twice in two games, wins over Saint Rose and Saint Anselm.
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Nikki Ingalls, Bryant (Jr., SP, Westford, MA) - Totaled 14 innings and no earned runs in a 2-0 week. Pitched a complete game no-hitter at Franklin Pierce while striking out six. Followed the no-hitter game with a six shutout inning performance in a win over Southern Connecticut.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Jennifer Farrelly, Le Moyne (Fr., DH, Latham, NY) - Hit .533 (8-15) with five runs scored, two home runs and nine runs batted in. Slugged 1.000 and posted a .650 on base average in the 4-2 week. Went 5-for-5 (3 R, 6 RBI) in a sweep of Saint Anselm.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Teresa Bonavita, American International (So., 1B, Agawam, MA) - Batted .391 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored while hitting safely in all six games in a 4-2 week. Went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI in a win over Franklin Pierce. Was 3-for-5 with a double in a 4-3, 13 inning win over Pace.
Shalynn Napolitano, Assumption (Sr., SP, Lawrence, MA) - Batted .429 (3-7, R, HR, 6 RBI) and slugged .857 (6 TB) in a 3-0 week. Also pitched a complete game shutout of Southern Connecticut, allowing only three hits. Went 2-for-2 with five RBI against Southern Connecticut, including a three-run home run.
Tania Palumbo, Assumption (Sr., 3B, Worcester, MA) - Batted .429 (3-7, 2 RS, HR, 3 RBI) and slugged .857 (6 TB) in a 3-0 week. Went 1-for-3 with a run scored versus Southern Connecticut. In a doubleheader versus Franklin Pierce, went 2-for-4 (RS, 3 RBI, HR, 3 BB), including the game-winning solo homerun in the fourth inning of game one.
Leigh Cavanaugh, Bentley (So., 1B, Cheshire, CT) - Hit .381 (8-21) with two doubles, three runs scored, two sacrifice bunts and a .476 slugging percentage during a 1-5 week. Had three two-hit games and hit safely in five of six.
Jordan Dargon, Bryant (Sr., C, Trumbull, CT) - Hit .500 in six games in a 5-1 week. Had three RBI and four runs scored including two doubles and a triple. Also drew four walks. Went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in a win over Southern Connecticut.
Stacey Lajoie, UMass Lowell (Fr., SS, Gardner, MA) – Hit .429 with nine nits, five runs, one double, one home run and five RBI. Hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning against Saint Rose and had a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI and one run scored in a 9-2 win at Bentley.
Cyrilla Suker, UMass Lowell (Fr., SP, Voorheesville, NY) - Had a 1.11 ERA and a 3-0 record in three starts. Gave up 14 hits and just four runs (three earned) while striking out 22. Against Saint Rose, struck out 10 in five innings of work for an 8-0 shutout victory. Against Bentley, helped her own cause at the plate with a game-winning three-run triple.
Laurie Tanguay, UMass Lowell (Jr., OF, Lowell, MA) – In a 6-0 week, batted .500 (9-18) and maintained a .778 slugging percentage to go along with six runs, one double, two triples and five RBI. Had a pair of 3-for-4 performances at Bentley, including two triples, three RBI and two runs scored in the first game.
Lauren Otto, Merrimack (Sr., SP, North Andover, MA) - Went 4-1 on the week. In 33 innings pitched, allowed just two earned runs for an 0.42 ERA. Pitched four complete games with one shutout and struck out a total of 17 batters.
Carolyn Krause, Pace (Jr., OF, Staten Island, NY) - In six games, batted .458 (11-24) with four doubles and six runs scored. Was 2-for-3 against Bentley with two doubles and two runs scored, including the tying run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Against Stonehill, was 4-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored. Against AIC, was 3-for-5 with an RBI double and one run scored.
Haley Wojtasinski, Saint Anselm (Sr., 2B, Hingham, MA) - Hit .421 in a 4-4 week. Had eight hits, including a double and a triple, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice, had a team-leading 11 total bases, slugged a .579 percentage, drew two walks and had a .476 on base percentage.
Kristen Calahan, Saint Rose (So., DH, LaGrange, NY) - At the plate, hit .500 (5-10) including three doubles and also drove in two runs and a stolen base. On the mound, had a 1.08 ERA, with 14 strikeouts in 13 innings with two earned runs and two walks.
Karissa Bettencourt, Southern New Hampshire (Fr., SS, Norton, MA) - Batted a team-high .538 (7-13) and scored a team-high five runs in a 3-1 week. Went 3-for-6 (2 R, 2 RBI) in a split with Stonehill and went 4-for-7 (3 R) in a sweep of Le Moyne.
Ashley Smith, Southern New Hampshire (Jr., SP, Franklin, NH) - Appeared in all four games and went 3-0 with 21 strikeouts in a 3-1 week. Allowed five earned runs in 19 2/3 innings (2.75 ERA). Fanned 11 in a win over Stonehill and picked up the win in both games in a sweep of Le Moyne. Went the distance (9 K) in game one and worked five scoreless innings of relief in game two.
Danielle Mason, Stonehill (So., SP, Salisbury, MA) - Posted a perfect 4-0 mark with a 1.17 earned run average in four appearances on the week, allowing four earned runs in 24 innings of work with 10 strikeouts. Tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout in a 3-0 triumph over Bentley and allowed one earned run in eight innings of work with a pair of strikeouts in a 5-3 eight inning victory at Southern New Hampshire. Also picked up wins over Saint Anselm (2-1) and Pace (5-4) on the week.
Weekly Notes:
UMASS LOWELL: UML has won six straight and 14 of its last 16 games. The team has already eclipsed its home run total from last year (10) with 14 to date. Freshman SS Stacey Lajoie is responsible for six of them and leads the league in home runs. The pitching tandem of Cyrilla Suker and Kristen Mahoney lead the league in strikeouts. Suker has put down 108 batters while Mahoney has retired 94. Sophomore Julie Brodie set the team record for most times hit by a pitch in one season this past week. She has been hit nine times to date, breaking her previous record of seven set last season. Brodie is one shy of the career record of 17 by Tracey Woods (1985-88). Brodie has been hit by a pitch (nine) more times than she has struck out (six) this season… SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Penmen have gone 8-2 since returning from Florida and posted their first-ever doubleheader sweep of Le Moyne last week. SNHU became the first team to sweep a NE-10 doubleheader from the Dolphins since April of 2004. Junior Felicia Brum (Braintree, MA) stands two hits shy of 100 for her career. She is batting a team-high .355 (22-62) this season and owns a career batting average of .333 (98-294)… BRYANT: Junior Nikki Ingalls tossed a complete game no-hitter on Wednesday in a 3-0 win over Franklin Pierce. The Bulldogs won five games in a row this week until the final game when they dropped to CW Post in a double-header split. Bryant has won 10 of their last 12 including two five game winning streaks. They resume Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday at Merrimack… LE MOYNE: Four different Dolphins homered in a 15-6 win at Saint Anselm. Sophomore Emma Murphy homered twice, Sarah Reed, Caitlin O'Neill and Jennifer Farrelly connected on one round-tripper each. The Dolphins are 4-2 on their eight-game road trip… ASSUMPTION: Assumption received a dominating week from their pitching staff in a 3-0 week. The trio of senior Shalynn Napolitano (Lawrence, MA/Fellowship Christian), junior Caitlin Stazinski (Westboro, MA/Westboro), and sophomore Lauren Symonick (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge) all pitched complete game victories and had a combined ERA of just 0.74 and an opposing batting average of .109 (7-for-64). Assumption hit two home runs against Southern Connecticut last Wednesday in a make-up of game 2 from April 1st. Junior right fielder Sarah Leary (Beacon Falls, CT/Seymour) hit a grand slam in the second inning and Napolitano would clobber a three-run home run later in the fourth. Junior first baseman Sandra Denman (Charlton, MA/Shepherd Hill) hit .571 (4-for-7) last week with a double, triple, an RBI, and six runs scored. Assumption has not committed an error in nine of their last ten games. They will finish a seven-team, 13-game home stand this week with contests against AIC (Monday, rescheduled from April 4), Mass.-Lowell (Tuesday), and Saint Michael's (Thursday)… STONEHILL: Stonehill has already surpassed its win total of last season with 15 triumphs to date, as the Skyhawks are 13-5-1 (.711) since March 8th. Stonehill belted four home runs in a game for the first time in 11 years with four round-trippers in Saturday's opening game win over Bentley, as the Skyhawks have nearly doubled their home run total of last season with 15 to date. Sophomore P Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) is the first Skyhawk to reach double-digits in the win column in five seasons, as her 10-2 mark to date is the best since 2001 Northeast-10 Player of the Year Jennifer McBride notched 14 victories in 20 decisions… AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL: AIC head coach Judy Groff became just the fifth coach in Division II softball history to reach the 850-win plateau Tuesday against Franklin Pierce. Her career record now stands at 853-504-3 over her 38-year tenure. Freshman Kellie Brown's (Gill, Mass.) five home runs are the most by a Yellow Jacket since Melissa Cuthbert hit seven during the 2001 season. Sophomore Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) has hit safely in each of the last seven games and has posted a .444 (12-27) batting average over that span… MERRIMACK: Merrimack is 1-2 against ranked foes this year, picking up its first win this week (2-1 over No. 13 C.W. Post). The Warriors also picked up a non-conference win against Adelphi this week. Since returning from its spring break trip in Florida, Merrimack is 6-10 (4-6 in the NE-10). Lauren Otto has gone 4-1 this week, pitching 33 innings and allowing just two earned runs. Otto pitched 17 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run… BENTLEY: Freshman shortstop Alex Hitchcock's (Abington, Mass.) school-record hitting streak came to an end at 16 games.
