Le Moyne Favored to Capture NE-10 Softball Title

South Easton, Mass. – Last year’s regular season
champions, the Le Moyne College Dolphins, are predicted to claim
the title once more as voted by the conference’s 15
coaches.
The Dolphins finished conference play with a 23-4 record and
claimed their fourth Northeast-10 Regular Season Title in five
years. Le Moyne received seven of the 15 possible first-place votes
for a total of 215 points.
Bryant University (19-9, NE-10), picked to finish second in the
conference, received four first-place votes and 194 points.
Following the Bulldogs with 189 points are the Owls of Southern
Connecticut State University (21-7, NE-10). The Owls picked up
three first-place votes. Southern New Hampshire University (21-7,
NE-10) is picked to finish fourth with a 179 points, followed by
Merrimack College (17-11, NE-10) with 161.
The University of Massachusetts Lowell (19-9, NE-10) received the
final first-place vote and is predicted to finish sixth. The River
Hawks defeated Merrimack 3-2 in last year’s championship game
to win their first-ever conference championship. American
International College (15-12-1, NE-10) received 137 points and are
predicted to finish seventh, followed by Stonehill College
(12-15-1, NE-10). The College of Saint Rose (11-17, NE-10) and Pace
University (9-19, NE-10) are picked to finish ninth and tenth in
that order.
Assumption College (5-21, NE-10), Saint Michael’s College
(16-12, NE-10), Saint Anselm College (10-15, NE-10), Bentley
College (2-26, NE-10) and Franklin Pierce University (6-22, NE-10)
round out the poll respectively.
The 2008 season begins on Sunday, March 2 as four teams,
Assumption, Le Moyne, Saint Anselm and Stonehill head south to
participate in their annual spring trip. Northeast-10 play gets
underway on Saturday, March 29 with a full slate of games
scheduled. The NE-10 Championship will begin on Friday, May 2 and
will conclude on May 4 at the highest seed.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the
Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic
conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any
Division II conference.
