Le Moyne Claims Top Seed in Northeast-10 Softball Championship

South Easton, Mass. – Le Moyne College won their fifth
Northeast-10 Regular Season Title in six years to secure the top
seed in the 2008 NE-10 Softball Championship presented by Diamond
Sports.
The Dolphins finished conference play with only one blemish in the
loss column at 27-1 and are 40-8 overall. Bryant University (36-12,
23-5, NE-10) finished 23-5 in conference play and will be the
second seed.
Southern Connecticut State University (24-25, 17-11 NE-10) slid in
as the third seed over the University of Massachusetts Lowell
(24-24, 17-11) due to the Owls regular season doubleheader sweep
against the River Hawks. Pace University (28-18, 16-12 NE-10) will
be the fifth seed in the tournament, followed by Saint Anselm
College (21-17, 15-13 NE-10) and Stonehill College (23-19, 15-13).
The Hawks will be the sixth seed over Stonehill due to the
conference tie-break procedures. The College of Saint Rose (17-21,
14-14 NE-10) rounds out the tournament field as the eighth
seed.
Due to weather delays earlier in the week, the Northeast-10
Softball tournament will feature a single elimination quarterfinal
and semifinal round followed by a best 2-out-of-3 series for the
championship round.
Quarterfinal action begins on Saturday May 3 at 9 a.m. with #1 Le
Moyne facing off with #8 Saint Rose on field ‘A’ and #2
Bryant versus #7 Stonehill will be on field ‘B’. The
next set of quarterfinal games will begin at 11 a.m. with #3
Southern Connecticut facing #6 Saint Anselm on field
‘A’ and the #4 UMass Lowell/#5 Pace game on field
‘B’.
The semifinals will begin shortly after the quarterfinals. Both
semifinal games will begin at 1 p.m. with the winner of Le
Moyne/Saint Rose and the winner of UMass Lowell/Pace playing on
field ‘A’ and the winner of Bryant/Stonehill and the
winner of Southern Connecticut/Saint Anselm playing on field
‘B’.
The semifinal winners will participate in the best 2-out-of-3
series on Sunday, May 4 with game one starting at 9 a.m. Game two
will follow at 11a.m. and if necessary, game three is set for 1
p.m.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the
Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic
conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any
Division II conference.
