Weekly Notes:
BENTLEY: Bentley has amassed 20 wins for just the
second time in the program's history and is one victory shy of the
school record. Freshman Christine D'Amico (Shrewsbury, Mass.) has
hit safely in 19 straight games, breaking the record set by
teammate Alex Hitchcock (Abington, Mass.) two years ago. Senior
Leigh Cavanaugh (Cheshire, Conn.) broke the school record for
career games, with her total currently at 163. She needs six AB to
break that career mark as well, and is also number one in school
history in putouts. Briana Kneeland (Winthrop, Mass.) became the
third Bentley player this year to reach the century mark in career
hits.
UMASS LOWELL: Senior Laurie Tanguay reached a
pair of milestones over the weekend. After setting UML's career
home run record with her 18th in a 10-0 win at Saint Michael's on
Apr. 8, Tanguay drove in the 125th and 126th RBI of her career in
Saturday's 4-1 win over Saint Rose to eclipse the all-time mark of
125 set by former standout Donna Mills (1993-96). Tanguay also tied
the single season RBI record with her 42nd, also in the 4-1 win
over Saint Rose.
PACE: Junior outfielder Christina Pane set the
school record for hits in one season, connecting on her 68th hit of
the season in a game two win over Bentley. The record was
previously held by Tess Bair, who set the record in 2003.
SAINT ROSE: Junior right-hander Tracy Chesebrough
established a single-season school record with 215 strikeouts so
far this year .She has registered double-digit strikeout totals in
eight straight outings and in 14 of her 21 appearances throughout
the season.
SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT: Senior pitcher Jessica
Dempsey has not surrendered an earned run in her last 36.2 innings
of work. The streak spans nine appearances. With a win in game one
of a doubleheader at Saint Anselm on Saturday, Owl's Head Coach
Lisa Barbaro earned the 100th victory of her four-year SCSU
coaching career.
SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE: Juniors Ashley Bernstein
(Stoughton, MA) and Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA) each recorded
their 100th career hit in Sunday's first game against
Stonehill.
STONEHILL: Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) blasted
her 17th career homerun, moving her into first place on the
school's all-time list. The homer was also her seventh of the
season, tying her own single season mark set in 2006. Danielle
Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) won her 28th career game on Sunday, moving
into a tie for third on the school's all-time list for wins.
Stonehill is poised to make its first postseason tournament
appearance since 1996. The 23 wins for the Skyhawks are the most in
a single season under head coach Danielle Delude.
