Northeast-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week
Jenna Vanacore, Le Moyne (So., SP, Hicksville, N.Y.) - Went 4-0 in
four starts, while striking out 27 batters over 28 scoreless
innings in a 7-1 week. Recorded an 0.857 WHIP as opponents hit just
.161. Posted 11 strikeouts in a complete game performance in the
1-0 win over Palm Beach Atlantic. Registered eight strikeouts in a
3-0 win over #21 C.W. Post and struck out five batters in a 1-0
victory over #26 Minnesota State-Mankato.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Jennifer Lowrey, Assumption (Fr., SP, Assonet, Mass.) – This
past week, made four appearances and three starts. Recorded an
earned run average of 0.82, including one shutout. Had 22 innings
of work and struck out 19 good enough for a 3-0 record to close out
the team’s trip in Florida. Drove in the game winning RBI in
the top of the ninth inning against Hannibal-LeGrange in a 3-2
victory.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Ashley Deegan, American International (Sr., SP, Durham, Conn.) -
Went 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 12 strikeouts in five appearances last
week. Tossed a two hitter with four strikeouts in a 2-1 win over
Felician and tossed three scoreless innings of relief with four Ks
as the team rallied to beat Dominican in extra innings. Also earned
a save in the second game against the Chargers, tossing two
scoreless innings with one strikeout. Also batted .308 (4-13) with
a double, four RBI and four runs scored. Was 1-for-4 with one RBI
and two runs scored, including the game-winning run in the bottom
of the eighth, in a 6-5 win over Ohio Valley and was 2-for-3 with
two RBI and a run scored in the 7-6 extra innings win over
Dominican.
Tara DeMontier, American International (Gr., 3B, Amesbury, Mass.) -
Batted .304 (7-23) with four doubles, one triple, four RBI and a
.565 slugging percentage last week. Went 2-for-3 with two doubles,
one RBI and two runs scored in a 6-5 extra inning win over Ohio
Valley and went 3-for-5 with one double, one triple, one RBI and
two runs scored in a sweep of Dominican. Also went 1-for-3 with an
RBI-double in a win over West Liberty State.
Ashley Bilodeau, Assumption (So., 3B, Manchester, Conn.) - Led the
team with five RBI, while hitting .375 and recorded a slugging
percentage of .438 this past week. Scored three runs and had two
extra base hits. Defensively, had eight put outs and 16
assists.
Ashley DeRosa, Bentley (Sr., OF, Wethersfield, Conn.) - In a 3-4
week, hit .429 (9-21) with two doubles, a triple, three RBI and
four sacrifice bunts. Was 3-for-3 with two RBI vs. West Liberty,
and 2-for-2 against Felician.
Ashley Messina, Bentley (Jr., SP, Hanover, Mass.) - Was 2-1 with a
1.14 ERA in four appearances, including a two-hit shutout against
Felician. In 24.2 innings, did not issue a walk and allowed 22
hits, 10 runs (4 earned).
Courtney Jacobs, Franklin Pierce (Sr., SP, Fitchburg, Mass.) -
Started, threw all nine innings, gave up three runs on five hits,
walked six and recorded a program-record 14 strikeouts en route to
a hard-luck, extra-inning loss against Queens.
Leah Ford, Le Moyne (Fr., 1B, Pulaski, N.Y.) - Hit a team-best .294
(5-17) with a .353 slugging percentage and two stolen bases in a
7-1 week. Posted a pair of hits against Southern Indiana, while
driving in a run and scoring the winning run in a 4-3 victory over
Dowling.
Jill Gagnon, Merrimack (Sr., SP, Manchester, N.H.) - Led the team
to a season-opening two victories with five hits, six RBI, and four
doubles, while pitching a complete game, four hitter, and striking
out twelve.
Megan Caporossi, Southern Connecticut (Jr., 3B, Northford, Conn.)
– Led the team to a 4-2 weekend, including a game-winning
two-run homerun in the sixth inning against No. 17 Wayne State
College. Went 5-for-12 in the first four games with one homerun,
four RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base.
Khristle Lee, Southern Connecticut (Jr., C, Aztec, N.M.) - Recorded
five hits in the first four games of a three-day road trip.
Registered five runs and two stolen bases.
Kate Brides, Stonehill (Sr., OF, West Bridgewater, Mass.) - At the
Rebel Games in Florida, hit .394 over 10 games with two doubles and
two RBI. Went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in a loss to
Dowling.
Chelsea Stryker, Stonehill (Fr., SS, Baldwin, N.Y.) - At the Rebel
Games, hit .294 with two stolen bases and scored five runs in ten
games at the leadoff spot. Went 3-for-4 with a run and stolen base
in a loss to St. Cloud St.
Weekly Notes:
BENTLEY: Junior Ashley Messina (Hanover, Mass.),
the stingiest pitcher in Division II last year in terms of walks,
has picked up where she left off. In 38.2 innings on the
team’s Florida trip, she didn’t issue a single free
pass.
FRANKLIN PIERCE: Courtney Jacobs' 14 strikeouts
marked the 10th time she has recorded double digits in the
strikeout department and broke her own school record of 13, set on
March 17, 2007 against Wooster. Jacobs has also struck out 11
batters in a game twice and 10 batters six times. Brittany
Huntington is the only other Raven to strike out at least 10
batters in a game, as she struck out 11 against Keene State on
March 8, 2001.
